To the Sound of the Guns: Canadians and Combat Surgery, 1938–1953 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Combat surgery is almost as old as battle itself. The Iliad contains many an example of surgical intervention to heal wounds--and in the modern era, the surgeon has become an almost saintly figure in the public imagination, especially in a context where ...

Abdominal organ injury in cardiac arrest: Systematic literature review.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
BackgroundBoth cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and ischaemia could lead to abdominal organ injury. However, the importance of abdominal injury in cardiac arrest remains uncertain.

Isolated mesocolon injury and sigmoid colon necrosis secondary to abdominal blunt trauma

open access: yesTrauma Case Reports
Introduction: Blunt abdominal trauma from road traffic crashes can lead to a range of injuries, including those to the mesocolon. While solid organ injuries are common, mesocolon injuries resulting in bowel necrosis are rare but potentially life ...

Multidimensional and Multifunctional Laser‐Induced Graphene (LIG) for Point‐of‐Care and Wearable Biosensing, Theranostics, and Bioactive Interfaces Toward Personalized Healthcare and Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multidimensional laser‐induced graphene (LIG) spanning from 0D to 3D architectures is comprehensively reviewed for multifunctional biomedical platforms, including biosensing, theranostics, and bioactive interface applications, which highlights its potentials for point‐of‐care diagnostics, wearable health monitoring, smart drug delivery, and tissue ...

Dual‐Network Protein Hydrogels Promote Rapid Hemostasis and Immune‐Regulated Scarless Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A dual‐network protein hydrogel substantially improves hemostasis and scar‐free healing. The adaptive network maintains intimate tissue contact while providing strong wet adhesion, tunable mechanics, and controlled degradation. Concurrent ROS scavenging and M2 polarization suppress fibrotic pathways, preventing scar formation.

Injectable Hydrogel with Rapid Coagulation, Low Swelling, and High Burst Pressure Tolerance Properties for Long‐Term Management of Bleeding Wound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An injectable PACmC hydrogel with “rigid island‐flexible chain” architecture is developed, featuring low swelling (49.2% within 7 d), strong wet adhesion (46.5 kPa), and high burst pressure (701 mm Hg), which can achieve rapid hemostasis and long‐term sealing in rabbit and porcine models of hepatic and splenic hemorrhage.

Predictive parameters for early detection of clinically relevant abdominal trauma in multiple-injury or polytraumatised patients: a retrospective analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Medical Research
Diagnosis of relevant organ injury after blunt abdominal injury (AI) in multiple-injury/polytraumatised patients is challenging. AI can be distinguished between injuries of parenchymatous organs (POI) of the upper abdomen (liver, spleen) and bowel and ...

NET‐DNA Activates the ANXA2/TMEM215/BiP Axis to Promote Mitophagy‐Mediated Anoikis Resistance in Endometriosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NET‐DNA is enriched during early endometriotic lesion establishment and drives anoikis resistance by promoting an ANXA2–TMEM215–BiP axis. This pathway strengthens ER–mitochondria contacts, enhances PINK1/Parkin‐associated mitophagy, preserves mitochondrial homeostasis, and supports ectopic stromal cell survival, thereby facilitating lesion persistence ...
