Ensemble Prediction of Time to Event Outcomes with Competing Risks: A Case Study of Surgical Complications in Crohn's Disease [PDF]
We develop a novel algorithm to predict the occurrence of major abdominal surgery within 5 years following Crohn's disease diagnosis using a panel of 29 baseline covariates from the Swedish population registers. We model pseudo-observations based on the Aalen-Johansen estimator of the cause-specific cumulative incidence with an ensemble of modern ...

This study uncovers that CD38high monocytes discriminate sepsis and sterile inflammation and are associated with 28‐day mortality in bacterial sepsis. Targeting CD38 therapy reduces inflammatory response in monocytes and in sepsis mice model. Mechanistically, CD38‐HIF‐1α/glycolysis/MGO loop exacerbates sepsis‐induced immune dysregulation.

Real-time Data Driven Precision Estimator for RAVEN-II Surgical Robot End Effector Position [PDF]
Surgical robots have been introduced to operating rooms over the past few decades due to their high sensitivity, small size, and remote controllability. The cable-driven nature of many surgical robots allows the systems to be dexterous and lightweight, with diameters as low as 5mm. However, due to the slack and stretch of the cables and the backlash of

Postoperative cardiac adhesions lead to numerous difficulties in reoperation procedures. Here, a thermo‐responsive in situ formed hydrogel is shown to can reliably cover the wounds after a convenient spraying or injection and significantly reduce adhesion formation in primary and recurrent cardiac injury adhesion models.

The control architecture of a spherical robot for Minimally Invasive Surgery [PDF]
Control systems used in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) play a crucial role in ensuring preci-sion and safety throughout procedures. This paper presents a control architecture developed for a robotic system designed for MIS operations. The modular structure of the control system allows for compatibility with a range of procedures in abdominal and ...

Closing the Gap between Deep and Conventional Image Registration using Probabilistic Dense Displacement Networks [PDF]
Nonlinear image registration continues to be a fundamentally important tool in medical image analysis. Diagnostic tasks, image-guided surgery and radiotherapy as well as motion analysis all rely heavily on accurate intra-patient alignment. Furthermore, inter-patient registration enables atlas-based segmentation or landmark localisation and shape ...

The Role of MCPIP1 in Macrophage Polarization and Cardiac Function Post‐Myocardial Infarction
Following myocardial infarction, MCPIP1 deficiency in macrophages triggers ferroptosis, driving proinflammatory M1 dominance over reparative M2 phenotypes. This imbalance amplifies splenic monocyte release and sustains cardiac inflammation. Concurrently, excessive inflammatory mediators and insufficient TGF‐β impair fibroblast activation, delaying ...
