Cranial nerve VI (abducens nerve) innervates the lateral rectus muscle. Acquired isolated abducens nerve palsy in infants and children is a rare condition. A lesion of abducens nerve will result in esotropia greater at distance, an ipsilateral abduction deficiency, and a double vision.
