ABSTRACT This study explores exciting state species and reaction pathways in positive leaders to better understand the breakdown mechanisms of long air gap discharges and natural lightning. Emission spectra from an unstable positive leader in a 1 m rod‐plate air gap under switching impulse voltages were observed, spanning 300–800 nm.

Optimal discretization and Degrees of ill-posedness for inverse estimation in Hilbert scales in the presence of random noise [PDF]
The problem of minimizing the difficulty of the inverse estimation of some unknown element x0 from noisy observations yδ = Ax0 + δξ in dependence of the nature of the random noise ξ is considered.

THE AESTHETICS OF URBAN METABOLISM: Landscape, Design and the Politics of In/Visibility
Abstract In this article, we chart the evolving aesthetic contours of urban metabolism across London, focusing on the River Lea and Thamesmead to the north and south of the River Thames, respectively. We begin in the nineteenth century, when these two sites formed critical nodes within a new sewerage system that relegated the city’s circulatory flows ...

Rational expectations and ambiguity: A comment on Abel (2002) [PDF]
Abel (2002) proposes a resolution of the riskfree rate and the equity premium puzzles by considering pessimism and doubt. Pessimism is characterized by subjective probabilistic beliefs about consumption growth rates that are stochastically dominated by ...

Optimal discretization of inverse problems in Hilbert scales. Regularization and self-regularization of projection methods [PDF]
We study the efficiency of the approximate solution of ill-posed problems, based on discretized observations, which we assume to be given afore-hand. We restrict ourselves to problems which can be formulated in Hilbert scales.

ABSTRACT This article explores the current controversies surrounding the European Ariane launcher and its implications for the future of European space governance. The Ariane program, historically a symbol of European technopolitical integration, faces mounting challenges due to delays, rising costs and increasing competition from private actors like ...

Revisiting Ontology to Reshape Transgenerational Justice
ABSTRACT This article develops a philosophical framework for understanding transgenerationality as a foundational concept for intergenerational justice. Drawing on social ontology and the philosophy of action, it introduces the notion of transgenerational civitas—a temporally extended community composed of past, present and future generations.

Low‐Carbon Transition and Active Management: Evidence From Emerging Market Funds
ABSTRACT Previous literature finds mixed evidence on the performance of emerging mutual funds and how investors are becoming more aware of investing in companies involved in low‐carbon emission activities. Given the opportunities that emerging markets and sustainable investing offer to active management, this study aims to fill a gap in the literature ...
