Persistent Organic Pollutants in Biotic and Abiotic Components of Antarctic Pristine Environment
Earth Systems and Environment, 2018Over the past decades, research in Antarctica has built a new understanding of Antarctica, its past, present and future. Human activities and long-range pollutants are increasing on the Antarctic continent. Research on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) has been carried out internationally by several countries having their permanent research stations

MnO2 and Oxalate: An Abiotic Route for the Oxidation of Aromatic Components in Wheat Straw
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 1998Oxidants formed through the interaction between MnO2 and oxalate accumulated in rotten wood have been evaluated as abiotic agents possibly involved in wheat straw ligninolysis. The hemicellulose and cellulose content of straw remained unchanged, and no release of free soluble materials from lignin or polysaccharides could be evidenced.

Direct regulation of abiotic responses by the
SummaryUp to 30% of the plant transcriptome is circadian clock‐regulated in different species; however, we still lack a good understanding of the mechanisms involved in these genome‐wide oscillations in gene expression. Here, we show that PSEUDO‐RESPONSE REGULATOR 7 (PRR7), a central component of the Arabidopsis clock, is directly involved in the ...

The use of biotic and abiotic components of Red Sea coastal areas as indicators of ecosystem health
Ecotoxicology, 2015A biomonitoring study was conducted using some biotic (Pomadasys hasta and Lutjanus russellii fish) and abiotic (water and sediment) components of the Red Sea coast of Hodeida, Yemen Republic along two polluted sites (Al-Dawar beach and Urj village) in comparison to a reference site (Al-Nukhailah beach).

Biotic and Abiotic Components of Marine Ecosystem
2023An aquatic ecosystem is a water-based environment. Aquatic ecosystems include the marine ecosystem and freshwater ecosystems. Two-thirds of the total surface area of the planet is covered by marine water. These ecosystems can be classified into two main categories; i) water/pelagic environment (including; neritic and oceanic zones) and; ii) bottom ...

Applied Clay Science, 1985
Abstract The catalytic power of 14 inorganic materials, namely, 4 synthetic short-range ordered oxides, 4 CBD-treated clay minerals, and 6 primary minerals in the abiotic synthesis of humic acids (HA) through the oxidative polymerization of hydroquinone was investigated. The promoting effect of Mn oxide is much higher than that of short-range ordered

Sorption of Trace Elements by Biotic and Abiotic Soil Components and Their Composites
2010With the increasing discharge by excessive application of fertilizer and the development of various industrial productions, the pollution by trace elements in natural environment has received great attention in recent decades. The sorption of trace elements on soil components is considered to be a vital process in controlling their mobility and ...

Impacts of Forest Fires on Soil: Exploring the Effects on Biotic and Abiotic Components
SylwanForest fires are a widespread occurrence in ecosystems worldwide, impacting both vegetation and soil. The effects of forest fires, as well as prescribed fires, on forest soil are complex, influencing soil organic matter, macro and micro-nutrients, and physical properties such as texture, color, pH, and bulk density, along with soil biota. The magnitude
