Rapid Direct PCR for ABO Blood Typing*
Abstract: Many different molecular typing methods have been reported to complement routine serological ABO blood typing in forensics. However, these ABO genotyping methods are often time‐consuming and call for an initial DNA isolation step that requires the use of expensive kits or reagents.

Detection of HIV-1 infection in dried blood spots from a 12-year-old ABO bedside test card [PDF]
Background and Objectives: We tested dried blood from an ABO bedside test card which had been stored at room temperature for 12 years, to prove that a patient with HIV-1 infection had been infected by blood transfusion. Materials and Methods: Immunoblots

ABO Blood Types and Mortality in Patients Undergoing Hemodialysis
Introduction: ABO blood types have been linked to cardiovascular and noncardiovascular mortality in nondialysis populations, but whether these associations extend to patients undergoing hemodialysis remains unclear.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Genetic Analysis of ABO and Rh Blood Groups in Brahmin Population of Uttar Pradesh, India” [PDF]
A series of glycoprotein and glycolipids on the red blood cell surface constitute blood group antigens. These are A, B, AB and O in ABO blood group system and Rh in rhesus blood group system. These antigens are genetically controlled.

The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Mechatronic System for ABO Human Blood Typing
In medical emergency situations, when a patient needs a blood transfusion, the universal blood type O− is administered. This procedure may lead to the depletion of stock reserves of O− blood. Nowadays, there is no commercial equipment capable of determining the patient's blood type in situ, in a fast and reliable process.
