Mucinous Adenocarcinoma in the Abomasum of a Cow
Veterinary Pathology, 1996A cow with mucinous adenocarcinoma of the abomasum presented to the teaching hospital with a markedly distended abdomen from which 80 liters of fluid was drained during trocharization. An exploratory laparotomy allowed removal of an additional 80 liters of fluid from the peritoneal cavity and revealed a diffusely thickened parietal peritoneum and a ...

Phycomycosis of the Abomasum in Camelus Dromedarius
Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series A, 1993SummaryTwo cases of phycomycosis of the abomasum in dromedary camels arc described. In one of the cases there is evidence of spread to the liver. The pathology and pathogensis of the disease are discussed. We believe this is the first report of phycomycosis in Camelidae.

Surgery of the Bovine Abomasum
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 1990Intensive management of cattle has resulted in an increased incidence of abomasal disorders. Many of these disorders require surgical intervention for the best outcome. This article reviews the anatomy and physiology of the abomasum, abomasal disorders that may be treated by surgery, and the advantages and disadvantages of various surgical approaches ...

Incidence of displaced abomasum (DA) in dairy cows is at least 10 times higher in Wisconsin herds than in Sweden, even though average fat-corrected milk production levels are similar. In southern Wisconsin an incidence of 2.5-3.5% appears normal (Dr.

Volvulus of the Bovine Abomasum and Omasum
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1981SUMMARY Two cows with right-side volvulus (torsion) of the abomasum and omasum were embalmed, and the viscera were dissected to study the topography and mechanics of the condition. In both cases, the abomasum and omasum were greatly distended and formed a loop with the cranial part of the duodenum.

An observational study was conducted from October 1998 to April 2000 on 215 cows diagnosed with left displaced abomasums (LDA) to evaluate risk factors associated with success of the toggle pin fixation procedure (n=108) and the omentopexy (n=107).

Ultrasonographic examination of the abomasum of 50 cows
Veterinary Record, 1997The purpose of this study was to determine the position, appearance and dimensions of the abomasum of 50 healthy 4 cows by ultrasonography. The ventral abdominal region caudal to the xiphoid process was examined with a 3.5 MHz linear 5 transducer. The abomasum could be visualised from both sides 2 and from the ventral midline of 47 of the cows.

Cannulation of Bovine Abomasum: A Surgical Technique
American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1973SUMMARY A surgical technique was developed for the implantation of a cannula in the abomasum of cattle. Cannulas were made of flexible plastic, 15 cm. long, with an inside diameter (i.d.) of 2.4 cm. The cannulas were inserted in the fundic part of the abomasum by means of a paracostal laparotomy. To prevent loss of the cannulas, a modified nurse-string

Metabolic Aspects in the Etiology of Displaced Abomasum
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 2000Results of studies on metabolic variables that exist prior to the diagnosis of displaced abomasum (DA) indicate that subclinical ketosis is a risk factor for DA. Serum aspartate aminotransferase activity, serum and milk betahydroxybutyric acid concentrations, and milk fat-to-protein ratios were often elevated before the diagnosis of DA, and these ...

A Technique for Chronic Catheterization of the Sheep Abomasum
Research in Veterinary Science, 1972Summary A simple technique for implanting a catheter in the abomasum of the sheep for daily sampling of the fluid phase of the abomasal contents is described.
