High-throughput estimation of plant height and above-ground biomass of cotton using digital image analysis and Canopeo

open access: yesTechnology in Agronomy, 2022
Plant height and above-ground biomass are important growth parameters that affect crop yield. Efficient and non-destructive technologies of crop phenotypic monitoring play crucial roles in intelligent farmland management.

Biomass production of young lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta var. latifolia) stands in Latvia

open access: yesiForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, 2013
Biomass as a source of renewable energy is gaining an increasing importance in the context of emission targets set by the European Union. Large areas of abandoned agricultural land with different soils are potentially available for establishment of ...

Analyzing the Relationship, Distribution of Tree Species Diversity, and Above-Ground Biomass on the Chitwan-Annapurna Landscape in Nepal

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, 2020
Forests provide numerous ecosystem goods and services. Their roles are considered as important for both climate mitigation and adaptation program. In Nepal, there are significant forest resources which are distributed in different regions; however, the ...

Soil Properties and Biomass Attributes in a Former Gravel Mine Area after Two Decades of Forest Restoration

open access: yesLand, 2020
The ongoing global deforestation resulting from anthropogenic activities such as unsustainable agriculture and surface mining threatens biodiversity and decreases both soil carbon and above-ground biomass stocks.

Biomass and Carbon Inventore of Teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) in the Community Forest of Jatimulyo Village, Karanganyar

open access: yesJurnal Ilmu Kehutanan, 2011
Forests store biomass and carbon in the form of living trees, forest floor detritus (e.g. litter falls), soil and wood products. This study describes inventory results of the above ground biomass of teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) in the community forest of ...

Quantifying Carbon Sequestration in Woody Trees of Makurdi Zoological Garden, Benue State, Nigeria: A Non-Destructive Approach

open access: yesUMYU Scientifica Journal
Carbon emissions and reflection are some of the most significant and urgent environmental problems in the world today due to climate change, and because of their ability to sequester Carbon, trees significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Impact of rising temperatures on the biomass of humid old-growth forests of the world

open access: yesCarbon Balance and Management, 2021
Background Understanding how warming influence above-ground biomass in the world’s forests is necessary for quantifying future global carbon budgets. A climate-driven decrease in future carbon stocks could dangerously strengthen climate change. Empirical
