Abrasive Wear in The Leg Joints of Insects
The presence of wear of the joint cuticle of the beetle legs is demonstrated experimentally and is represented by abrasive wear. Presence of the abrasive wear in the natural‐habiting beetles of various families is also established.

Wear characteristics of thermoset composite under high stress three-body abrasive [PDF]
Three body abrasive wear of chopped strand mat glass fibres reinforced polyester (CGRP) was studied for three principal orientations of the fibres, i.e. parallel orientation (P-O), anti-parallel orientation (AP-O) and normal orientation (N-O).

This study investigates friction and wear of AISI 52100 steel under dry sliding in CO2, air, and N2 atmospheres, with and without contact electrification. CO2 forms a stable carbon‐rich tribofilm that reduces friction by ∼30% and wear by ∼85%. High‐resolution TEM, EELS, and molecular dynamics reveal pressure‐dependent lubrication mechanisms, showing ...

Femoral stem wear in cemented total hip replacement
The great success of cemented total hip replacement to treat patients with end-stage osteoarthritis and osteonecrosis has been well documented. However, its long-term survivorship has been compromised by progressive development of aseptic loosening, and ...

Wear - is a change in the size, shape, mass or condition of the surface of a product or structure due to destruction (wear) of the surface layer. Abrasive wear is the destruction of the surface by hard abrasive grains. There are two possible types of impact of abrasive grains on the surface.
