Enhancing Surgical Efficiency and Cost‐Effectiveness With TaTME‐Combined Robot‐Assisted Surgery for Lower Rectal Cancer

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Robot‐assisted rectal surgery (RAS) offers improved dexterity and visualization; however, the high cost of equipment and consumables remains a major challenge for hospital management. At our institution, we have adopted a combined approach using transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) for lower rectal cancers, aiming to shorten ...

First Successful Regeneration of a Structurally Native‐Like Colon Using a Bioabsorbable Polymer Sheet

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study demonstrated that a bioabsorbable polymer sheet (BAPS) can regenerate approximately half the circumference of the colon with native‐like structure and function in an experimental setting. As the model involved immediate closure after perforation and did not reproduce peritonitis, caution is required when considering clinical applicability ...

Limberg flap reconstruction for sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus disease with and without acute abscess: Our experience and a review of the literature

open access: yesArchives of Plastic Surgery, 2019
Background The efficacy of Limberg flap reconstruction for pilonidal sinus with acute abscess remains unclear. This study aimed to compare outcomes after Limberg flap reconstruction for pilonidal sinus disease with and without acute abscess. A secondary

Prospective Feasibility Study of Laparoscopic and Robotic Distal Gastrectomy for Advanced Gastric Cancer to Verify the Safety of Surgical Proximal Margins

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Ensuring an adequate surgical proximal margin (SPM) is crucial in radical gastrectomy for gastric cancer. However, the lack of tactile feedback in laparoscopic distal gastrectomy (LDG) and robotic distal gastrectomy (RDG) poses challenges in precisely determining tumor boundaries, particularly in advanced gastric cancer, where tumor ...

Short‐ and Long‐Term Outcomes of Subtotal Gastrectomy for Remnant Gastric Cancer: A Multicenter Study

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This multicenter study compared subtotal versus completion gastrectomy for remnant gastric cancer. Subtotal gastrectomy was associated with shorter operative time and significantly less postoperative weight loss, with no difference in long‐term survival, suggesting it as a feasible surgical option without compromising oncologic outcomes.

Significance of Self‐Expandable Metallic Stent for Postoperative Intra‐Abdominal Infection After Pancreatoduodenectomy in Patients With a Hard Pancreas

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Self‐expandable metal stents (SEMS) are often used for preoperative biliary drainage in pancreatoduodenectomy (PD); however, their impact on postoperative intra‐abdominal infection (POAI) remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of SEMS in relation to POAI.
