The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Girsanov theory under a finite entropy condition
This paper is about Girsanov's theory. It (almost) doesn't contain new results but it is based on a simplified new approach which takes advantage of the (weak) extra requirement that some relative entropy is finite.

Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Relative frequencies in multitype branching processes
This paper considers the relative frequencies of distinct types of individuals in multitype branching processes. We prove that the frequencies are asymptotically multivariate normal when the initial number of ancestors is large and the time of ...

Variants of normality for Noetherian schemes
This note presents a uniform treatment of normality and three of its variants---topological, weak and seminormality---for Noetherian schemes. The key is to define these notions for pairs $(Z, X)$ consisting of a (not necessarily reduced) scheme $X$ and a

Globalization and the Flattening of the World: A Book Review of “The World is Flat” [PDF]
There is no doubt the world is changing. In cultures, in politics, and in economies, increased awareness of foreign and domestic practices has become a focal point of society. Trade has always proven beneficial to a nation due to the laws of absolute and

Absolute Position Total Internal Reflection Microscopy with an Optical Tweezer
A non-invasive, in-situ calibration method for Total Internal Reflection Microscopy (TIRM) based on optical tweezing is presented which greatly expands the capabilities of this technique. We show that by making only simple modifications to the basic TIRM

Problems and methods of calculating the Legendre functions of arbitrary degree and order
The known standard recursion methods of computing the full normalized associated Legendre functions do not give the necessary precision due to application of IEEE754-2008 standard, that creates a problems of underflow and overflow.
