In▶ geochronology, the absolute age of a rock is the age obtained from the measurement of spontaneous decay of radioactive nuclides contained in the rocks or its constituent minerals. It differs from the relative age. This latter is the age of a rock obtained from time and space relations between rock formations, giving only qualitative or ...

Absolute vs. comparative end-of-life age
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1997A.M. Bruning et al. (see ibid., vol.3, no.4, p.567-76, 1996) have presented an application of the dimensional effect expression to data obtained from a life test carried out under thermal stress and humidity. The basis of this approach is the correct identification of the probability distribution function of failure times, having performed proof tests ...

Age and Forgetfulness: Absolute Versus Comparison Decisions About Capability
Experimental Aging Research, 1997Perceivers were assigned to one of two decision conditions. In an absolute decision condition, perceivers rated how likely they would be to allow a young or old highly forgetful, slightly forgetful, or nonforgetful target to perform a challenging task.

Urey: to measure the absolute age of mars
2003 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.03TH8652), 2004UREY, a proposed NASA Mars Scout mission will, for the first time, measure the absolute age of an identified igneous rock formation on Mars. By extension to relatively older and younger rock formations dated by remote sensing, these results will enable a new and better understanding of Martian geologic history.

Germany in the Age of Absolutism
1989Rudolf Vierhaus's work is much more than a political history of Germany from the Thirty Years' War to the end of the Seven Years' War: His study reconstructs the historical structures that marked this age. He examines economic developments, the social system, and cultural life, even as he continues to pay close attention to Germany's political ...

Conclaves in the Age of Absolutism
2003After 1600 most cardinals led respectable lives, and few had children. With men of good moral quality from whom to choose, the conclaves from then on elected popes who never disgraced their office with their personal failings. On the other hand, popes and cardinals were more eager than ever to enhance the status and wealth of their families by giving ...

Graphic Integration of Relative Age, Absolute Age, and Stratigraphic Thickness
Journal of Geological Education, 1962A method is described that allows visual comparison of rate and continuity of sedimentation through geologic time. A geologic column based on measured stratigraphic thicknesses is plotted against scales of relative and absolute time. The resulting graphs allow the beginning student to compare rates of sedimentation during the time represented by the ...

Construction of age‐related reference centiles using absolute residuals
Statistics in Medicine, 1993AbstractThis paper proposes a simple approach to the parametric derivation of age‐related reference ranges which avoids the creation of arbitrary age groups, copes easily with a non‐linear relation between variability and age, and is computationally simple.

Absolute Estimation of Line Length in Three Age Groups
Journal of Gerontology, 1981The effect of age upon the subjective magnitude of line length was assessed by the method of absolute magnitude estimation in three groups of subjects with mean ages of 25, 50, and 68 years. The results showed no significant differences between the groups. When compared to data from an earlier study in which 5- to 6-year-old children were tested by the

THE AGE OF ABSOLUTISM, 1648–1815
2004The German territories emerged somewhat strengthened from the Thirty Years War, at least in respect of their political position in relation to the Empire. It was quite clear that, although they still did not formally possess full sovereignty, territorial rulers rather than the Holy Roman Emperor were the key political actors. In the period from the mid-
