‘Feeling of absolute dependence’ or ‘absolute feeling of dependence’? A question revisited

Religious Studies, 2005
The translation of Schleiermacher's key phrase ‘das schlechthinnige Abhängigkeitsgefühl’ is a matter of some contention. It has been suggested that the traditional translation (‘feeling of absolute dependence’) is in fact inaccurate and that it should be replaced with the accurate ‘absolute feeling of dependence’.

Feeling of absolute dependence or absolute feeling of dependence? (What Schleiermacher really said and why it matters)

Religious Studies, 1998
Friedrich Schleiermacher is known as the theologian who said that the essence of Christian faith is a state of mind called ‘the feeling of absolute dependence’. In this respect, Schleiermacher's reputation owes much to the influential translation of his dogmatics prepared by Mackintosh, Stewart and others.

The Feeling of Absolute Dependence

The Journal of Religion, 1977
I wish to discuss a feeling, or a family of similar feelings, which people have thought to be of religious significance or even to be the essence of religion. I have titled my essay with the name given to this experience by Schleiermacher, though the experience is by no means his idiosyncrasy.

Temperature-dependent absolute fluorescence quantum yield of C60 multilayers

Chemical Physics Letters, 1993
Laser-induced fluorescence techniques were used to examine the fluorescence quantum yield of C60 multilayers on Al2O3 (0001) from 28 to 350 K in ultra-high vacuum. The C60 fluorescence quantum yield was q = 6.2 × 10−4±1.3 × 10−4 at 28 K.

Accurate determination of absolute carrier-envelope phase dependence using photo-ionization

Optics Letters, 2015
The carrier-envelope phase (CEP) dependence of few-cycle above-threshold ionization (ATI) of Xe is calibrated for use as a reference measurement for determining and controlling the absolute CEP in other interactions. This is achieved by referencing the CEP-dependent ATI measurements of Xe to measurements of atomic H, which are in turn referenced to ab ...

A new absolute stability test for systems with state‐dependent perturbations

International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, 2002
AbstractIn this paper, a new test for the absolute stability of nonlinear systems with state‐dependent nonlinearities is developed. Scalar nonlinearities are assumed to lie in sectors. Using a Lur'e function as a Lyapunov function, a linear matrix inequalities (LMI) stability condition is derived.

Personality‐dependent dissociation of absolute and relative loss processing in orbitofrontal cortex

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2008
AbstractA negative outcome can have motivational and emotional consequences on its own (absolute loss) or in comparison to alternative, better, outcomes (relative loss). The consequences of incurring a loss are moderated by personality factors such as neuroticism and introversion. However, the neuronal basis of this moderation is unknown.

The Optimization of Co-Dependent and Absolutely Additive System

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
Based on the additives of system function, and the co-dependence between the system and subsystems. We analyzed the optimization of co-dependent and absolutely additive system followed after the paper The optimization of independent and absolutely additive system. We make further efforts to analyze the performance function of absolutely additive system,

Individual Utility Depends Only on Absolute Consumption

2017
Traditional economic theory assumes, preposterously, that a person’s loss in utility when he alone suffers an income decline is the same as his utility loss when everyone’s income declines by the same proportion. In fact, the person’s loss in utility is much smaller when everyone’s income declines.

Absolute temperature dependence of chemical shielding of some reference nuclei

Journal of Magnetic Resonance (1969), 1975
Abstract In order to interpret adequately any temperature dependence measurements of NMR shifts it is necessary to have an independent measurement of the temperature dependence of the chemical shielding of the reference substance itself. Such data have previously been unavailable due to lack of a single reference substance whose temperature ...
