Density modulation-induced absolute laser-plasma-instabilities: simulations and theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fluid simulations show that when a sinusoidal density modulation is superimposed on a linear density profile, convective instabilities can become absolutely unstable. This conversion can occur for two-plasmon-decay and stimulated Raman Scattering instabilities under realistic direct-drive inertial confinement fusion conditions and can affect hot ...

Stochastic variation in the FOXM1 transcription program mediates replication stress tolerance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cellular heterogeneity is a major cause of drug resistance in cancer. Segeren et al. used single‐cell transcriptomics to investigate gene expression events that correlate with sensitivity to the DNA‐damaging drugs gemcitabine and prexasertib. They show that dampened expression of transcription factor FOXM1 and its target genes protected cells against ...

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

A transient inflammatory response contributes to oxaliplatin neurotoxicity in mice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1985-1998, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives Peripheral neuropathy is a relevant dose‐limiting adverse event that can affect up to 90% of oncologic patients with colorectal cancer receiving oxaliplatin treatment. The severity of neurotoxicity often leads to dose reduction or even premature cessation of chemotherapy.

TASTE SENSITIVITY CHANGES AMONG CONSUMERS OF PEMPEK-CUKO IN PALEMBANG CITY, SOUTH SUMATRA, INDONESIA [PDF]

open access: yesRussian Journal of Agricultural and Socio-Economic Sciences
Pempek is a typical food from Palembang, Indonesia. It is commonly consumed with cuko, a dipping sauce containing acetic acid which is corrosive. The research aimed to determine the absolute and recognition threshold, as well as changes in tongue ...

Lower Bound on Weights of Large Degree Threshold Functions [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2013
An integer polynomial $p$ of $n$ variables is called a \emph{threshold gate} for a Boolean function $f$ of $n$ variables if for all $x \in \zoon$ $f(x)=1$ if and only if $p(x)\geq 0$.

Exploration of heterogeneity and recurrence signatures in hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study leveraged public datasets and integrative bioinformatic analysis to dissect malignant cell heterogeneity between relapsed and primary HCC, focusing on intercellular communication, differentiation status, metabolic activity, and transcriptomic profiles.

The anterior nucleus of the thalamus plays a role in the epileptic network

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 2010-2024, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives We investigated both the metabolic differences and interictal/ictal discharges of the anterior nucleus of the thalamus (ANT) in patients with epilepsy to clarify the relationship between the ANT and the epileptic network. Methods Nineteen patients with drug‐resistant epilepsy who underwent stereoelectroencephalography were studied ...

Absolute quantification of real-time PCR data with stage signal difference analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Real-time PCR, or Real-time Quantitative PCR (qPCR) is an effective approach to quantify nucleic acid samples. Given the complicated reaction system along with thermal cycles, there has been long-term confusion on accurately calculating the initial nucleic acid amounts from the fluorescence signals.

Behavioral estimates of absolute visual threshold in mice

open access: yesVision Research, 1997
Behavioral measurements on the water maze show night blindness in albino mice but cortical recordings show no difference between pigmented and congenic albino mice. Consequently we have measured the absolute threshold in albino and pigmented mice using an operant method. The estimated threshold value is -5.3 log cd/m2 for albino mice and -5.5 log cd/m2
