Stochastic resonance controlled upregulation of internal noise after hearing loss as a putative correlate of tinnitus-related neuronal hyperactivity [PDF]
Subjective tinnitus (ST) is generally assumed to be a consequence of hearing loss (HL). In animal studies acoustic trauma can lead to behavioral signs of ST, in human studies ST patients without increased hearing thresholds were found to suffer from so called hidden HL.

Abstract Entrepreneurial orientation (EO) is critical for firms navigating dynamic environments, yet the mechanisms driving its development remain underexplored. This study examines the role of entrepreneurial alertness (EA) as a mediator linking environmental dynamism to EO and firm performance.

Space activities in subarctic Sweden are predicated on older infrastructures of underground resource extraction. The ongoing expansion of the country's rocket launch site outside Kiruna relies on the Swedish state's historical construction of the region as a resource frontier.

Neighbourhood Effects Across Generations and the Reproduction of Inequality
ABSTRACT This paper analyses the enduring impact of neighbourhood deprivation on youth development, exploring multigenerational aspects often overlooked in existing research. I investigate how neighbourhood environments experienced across two generations impact youth outcomes, focussing on cognitive skills and socio‐emotional behaviour. Using data from

Utilizing Machine Learning and 3D Neuroimaging to Predict Hearing Loss: A Comparative Analysis of Dimensionality Reduction and Regression Techniques [PDF]
In this project, we have explored machine learning approaches for predicting hearing loss thresholds on the brain's gray matter 3D images. We have solved the problem statement in two phases. In the first phase, we used a 3D CNN model to reduce high-dimensional input into latent space and decode it into an original image to represent the input in rich ...

The Value Relevance of a Firm's Carbon Risk Profile
The aim of this paper is to provide insights into the capital market's role in incentivizing firms to engage meaningfully in the transition to a net zero carbon emissions economy. We investigate whether capital markets negatively value a broader concept of carbon risk exposure in addition to its historic carbon footprint and offset assessed penalties ...

Growing Restrictiveness or Changing Selection? The Nature and Evolution of Migration Policies
This paper demonstrates that, since 1945, migration policies have overall become less restrictive. Challenging common assumptions, this long‐term trend is robust across most of the 45 countries included in the DEMIG POLICY database. While the period after 1989 is characterized by a slowing down of the rapid post‐WWII liberalization of migration ...

The first Cadenza challenges: using machine learning competitions to improve music for listeners with a hearing loss [PDF]
It is well established that listening to music is an issue for those with hearing loss, and hearing aids are not a universal solution. How can machine learning be used to address this? This paper details the first application of the open challenge methodology to use machine learning to improve audio quality of music for those with hearing loss.

Rocking the Boat to Change the Debate: Identifying and Testing Conventional Wisdom
ABSTRACT This paper presents a method for and experiences with pioneering new research directions that challenge “conventional wisdom” and change policy and research debates. The method consists of four steps: (1) identify the conventional wisdom (CW); (2) ignore the CW and go to the field without pre‐conceived notions, and look long and hard at ...
