Reactive oxygen species act as signaling molecules to control root hair initiation and tip growth
Summary Root hairs (RHs) increase the surface area of roots, facilitating nutrient and water uptake and plant anchorage. RHs form from root epidermal cells and elongate by polar tip growth. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) have recently been implicated as important signals that drive RH formation and elongation using both genetic and imaging approaches ...

Assessing Closed Hydroponic Subsystems for Batavia Lettuce Growth Under Different Planting Densities
ABSTRACT Hydroponic systems have the potential to be sustainable and alternative methods for food production that confer advantages of high production and better control of growth. However, only a few studies have focused on leafy vegetable growth in different subsystems and environmental variables.

ABSTRACT The lack of soil data is a complication that most soil scientists will encounter throughout their career; this critical aspect is exacerbated due to the excessive cost of soil surveying. Consequently, it is essential to develop strategies that guarantee the permanent accessibility of past soil sampling efforts.

Social protection and resilience in protracted crises
Abstract This article critically examines perspectives on social protection’s role in strengthening resilience capacities in protracted crises – contexts where conflict and displacement persist for five years or longer. These crises shape how stakeholders navigate their mandates to provide support, while influencing how affected communities seek to ...

Despite the critical role of biological soil crusts (biocrusts) in dryland C and N cycles, little is known about how biocrust‐derived C and N move into the soil. This study reveals how biocrusts facilitate the downward movement of C and N and drive the formation of mineral‐associated organic matter in subcrust soils.

Tree species diversity promotes below‐ground water source partitioning in mixed oak and pine stands, potentially reducing competition for water in more diverse ecosystems. Yet, these results show that it is insufficient to buffer the adverse impacts of severe droughts on above‐ground tree carbon and water use, leading to higher water stress, especially
