Tunable Perforated Panel Sound Absorbers for Variable Acoustics Room Design

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Variable acoustics systems are promising engineering developments for multi-purpose rooms and workspaces in many buildings. However, due to space requirements associated with most of the tuning devices used for that purpose, these solutions are hardly ...

Discovery of an Intrinsic Antiferromagnetic Semiconductor EuSc2Te4 With Magnetism‐Driven Nonlinear Transport

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
EuSc₂Te₄, an antiferromagnetic semiconductor, exhibits a nonlinear Hall effect (NLHE) characterized by quadratic current–voltage behavior. Combined experimental and theoretical studies reveal that this NLHE is linked to its antiferromagnetism and involves contributions from the quantum metric.

Air Absorption Error in Room Acoustical Modeling [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
Most statistical and ray-tracing computer models take into account the absorption of sound by air when calculating the reverberation time. Extensive research by many scientist lead to the standardized calculation model for pure tone air absorption.

Sono‐Piezo‐Photosynthesis of Ethylene and Acetylene from Bioethanol under Ambient Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel sono‐piezo‐photocatalytic strategy enables the conversion of bioethanol to ethylene (C2H4) and acetylene (C2H2) under ambient conditions, addressing the limitations of conventional methods that are high‐temperature and energy‐intensive. By using an advanced graphene oxide/sodium bismuth titanate heterostructure catalyst, this work achieved ...

Floquet Topological Insulators for Sound [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The unique conduction properties of condensed matter systems with topological order have recently inspired a quest for similar effects in classical wave phenomena. Acoustic topological insulators, in particular, hold the promise to revolutionize our ability to control sound, allowing for large isolation in the bulk and broadband one-way transport on ...

Theory of amplification of sound (acoustic phonons) by absorption of laser radiation in quantum wires with parabolic potential [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Based on the quantum transport equation for the electron-phonon system, the absorption coefficient of sound (acoustic phonons) by absorption of a laser radiation in quantum wires with parabolic potential is calculated for the case of monophoton absorption and the case of multiphoton absorption.

Design and demonstration of an acoustic right-angle bend [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, we design, fabricate and experimentally characterize a broadband acoustic right-angle bend device in air. Perforated panels with various hole-sizes are used to construct the bend structure. Both the simulated and the experimental results verify that acoustic beam can be rotated effectively through the acoustic bend in a wide frequency ...

Room dimensions and absorption inference from room transfer function via machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The inference of the absorption configuration of an existing room solely using acoustic signals can be challenging. This research presents two methods for estimating the room dimensions and frequency-dependent absorption coefficients using room transfer functions.
