From a profiled diffuser to an optimized absorber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The quadratic residue diffuser was originally designed for enhanced scattering. Subsequently, however, it has been found that these diffusers can also be designed to produce exceptional absorption.

Nonlinear acoustic and microwave absorption in glasses [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1997
A theory of weakly-nonlinear low-temperature relaxational absorption of acoustic and electromagnetic waves in dielectric and metallic glasses is developed. Basing upon the model of two-level tunneling systems we show that the nonlinear contribution to the absorption can be anomalously large.

A Universal Way to Manipulate Droplet via Light‐Fueled Thermocapillary Convection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐contact light‐induced droplet manipulation strategy fueled by mid‐infrared (MIR) light irradiation is introduced. No additional additives and/or complex substrate are required. Here, thermocapillary convection, directly generated by temperature gradient at outer surface of droplet via localized surface heating, plays a key role to propel the ...

THE INSERTION LOSS OF POROELASTIC PLATE SILENCERS IN A FLOW DUCT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Idealized silencers consisting of cavity-backed clamped porous elastic plates parallel to the direction of flow can result in low frequency attenuation of noise in the duct.

Ultrabroadband sound control with deep-subwavelength plasmacoustic metalayers

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Controlling audible sound requires inherently broadband and subwavelength acoustic solutions, which are to date, crucially missing. This includes current noise absorption methods, such as porous materials or acoustic resonators, which are typically ...

CRISPR/Cas9‐Assisted Microrobots for Fast and Ultrasensitive “On‐The‐Fly” Next‐Generation DNA Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents self‐propelled CRISPR/Cas9‐functionalized Au–MRs for rapid, amplification‐free, “on‐the‐fly” DNA detection. By harnessing motion‐assisted signal recovery, the platform achieved the limit of detection in low fM DNA concentrations, enabling detection across a wide dynamic range within only 5 min, which is significantly faster than any ...

Seabed Attenuation In Water Saturated Sands On New Jersey Continental Shelf In 50-3000 Hz Band [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The Shallow Water 2006 ocean acoustics experiment on the New Jersey continental shelf was designed in part to determine the frequency dependence of sound speed and attenuation for a sandy sediment in the 50-3000 Hz band.
