A multi‐network approach to assess how physical templates shape stream fish ecological strategies

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April/June 2026.
This multi‐network framework identifies a continuous topological gradient of fish ecological strategies—comprising Dispersal Gateways, Integrated Connectors, and Mass Effect Dominated species—within the dendritic river template. The functional role of stream reaches is scale‐sensitive, particularly at headwater extremes where sites operate as critical ...

Structure and dynamic of planktonic ciliate community in a large Neotropical river: the relevance of the pluviosity and tributaries in the biodiversity maintenance

open access: yesActa Limnologica Brasiliensia, 2017
Aim: We investigated the spatial and temporal patterns of abundance and diversity of planktonic ciliate community, in the last undammed stretch of the Upper Paraná River, Brazil.

Exploring ecohydrology through the lens of local fishers in the Bolivian Amazon

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract The natural flow regimes of Andean‐Amazon tributaries play a vital role in sustaining their rich biodiversity and productive local fisheries, but ongoing and proposed alteration of river flow regimes by large dams threatens to negatively impact river ecosystems. Despite its importance, our understanding of how hydrologic variability influences

Unravelling the drivers of island species richness in tropical savannas

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 4, April 2026.
Murundu island area explains a substantial proportion of the variation in tree and herb richness, consistent with Island Biogeography Theory. On average, a 10% increase in island size corresponds to increases of seven tree species and 7.8 herb species.

As above, so below: A perspective into the application of land‐forest monitoring methods for the assessment of marine animal forests

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 1124-1142, April 2026.
Abstract Marine animal forests (MAFs) are benthic ecosystems dominated by vertically structuring filter‐ and suspension‐feeders. As terrestrial forests, they are considered biodiversity hotspots, forming canopies, serving as a refuge, nursery, reproduction and feeding shelters for many species.

Insect diversity in organic rice fields under two management systems of levees vegetation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2017
Simplified environments characterize agroecosystems, reducing the diversity of associated plants, which are not cultivated for economic purposes, causing unbalances that can promote the emergence of cultivated plants pests, as well as the reduction of ...
