Evaluation of contiguous implants with cement-retained implant-abutment connections. A minipig study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Osseointegration, 2014
Aim: The presence of a microgap at the implant-abutment interface may permit bacterial contamination and lead to bone resorption, interfering with papillae formation.

The Longitudinal Impact of Radiotherapy on Osseointegrated Hearing Aid Outcomes and Complications

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Radiation significantly increases the risk of both abutment and implant‐related osseointegrated hearing aid complications, particularly in the long term. Cumulative incidence plots demonstrate a greater discrepancy in complication rates between groups as time increases. Ongoing surveillance for complications in this population is critical.

Mono Drill Bone Anchored Hearing Aid Procedure Under Local Anesthesia

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The abstract presents a single‐step drilling technique for bone‐anchored hearing aids (BAHAs), designed to shorten the surgical time and enhance patient satisfaction. This minimally invasive procedure, performed under local anesthesia, effectively reduces surgical time to less than 20 min without postoperative complications.

Study of the Dynamic Soil-Abutment-Superstructure Interaction for a Bridge Abutment

open access: yes, 2017
The abutment is the part of a bridge that has a more significant dynamic interaction with the soil; the behaviour of the abutment is also influenced by the interaction with the superstructure, producing a reciprocal time-dependent exchange of inertial forces between them.

Comparison of Surface Features of Ceramic and Ti‐Based Dental Implants

open access: yesphysica status solidi (a), EarlyView.
The roughness values of ceramic implants are slightly higher than of the titanium machined sample and significantly lower than of sandblasted implants. The observed structures, along with the roughness values, could enhance the osseointegration of the 3D printed ceramic implants.

Tributary‐Trunk Sedimentary Links in an Inter‐Dam River Reach: Lessons From Low‐Altitude High‐Gradient Forested Streams, the Dyje River (Czechia‐Austria)

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study employs two measures of connectivity, valley confinement index (VCI) and effective catchment area (ECA), combined with a field survey of active sediment sources (ASS) to unravel the tributary‐trunk sedimentary links in the 42.5 km long inter‐dam reach of the Dyje River, Czech‐Austrian border.

Beyond Supply and Demand: The Moral Economy of Price Formation in Slab City

open access: yesEconomic Anthropology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article investigates the unique economic practices of Slab City, California, an off‐grid community that rejects mainstream US values. Despite operating within the broader US economic system, Slab City residents have developed alternative forms of exchange, using cigarettes and cannabis alongside US dollars.
