AC Corrosion of Cathodically Protected Pipelines – a Summary

CORROSION 2021, 2021
Abstract This paper presents a summary of the results obtained during 3 years of PhD studies on “AC Corrosion of Cathodically Protected Pipelines” at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU)1, which was finalized in October 2018 and defended in January 2019.1 Amongst the findings are: An improved understanding of AC corrosion as ...

Corrosion Rate Measurement and Oxide Investigation of AC Corrosion at Varying AC/DC Current Densities

Corrosion, 2019
Corrosion of pipelines under cathodic protection (CP) caused by induced alternating current (AC) is highly dependent on the cathodic current density. This study uses electrical resistance probes to produce a corrosion rate map of the AC/DC current density domain, using a galvanostatic CP system subject to varying AC voltage interference levels.

AC Corrosion at Coating Defect on Pipelines

Corrosion, 2014
In this work, the effect of the size and geometrical shape of coating defects on pipeline corrosion under alternating current (AC) interference in a deoxygenated, near-neutral pH bicarbonate solution was studied by direct current (DC) potential analysis, polarization curve measurements, and surface characterization.

The AC Corrosion Mechanisms and Models: A Review

Corrosion, 2019
In this paper, the mechanisms and models of alternating current (AC) corrosion are critically reviewed to provide a systematic understanding for the further development of AC corrosion theory. None of the proposed mechanisms could give a full explanation of the AC corrosion behaviors, and no technical consensus has been reached.

Machine learning approach to AC corrosion assessment under cathodic protection

Materials and Corrosion, 2022
Data mining was introduced and 178 sets of alternating current (AC) corrosion data were collected from published data and our research group. The AC current density (JAC), direct current (DC), current density (JDC), the ratio of AC/DC current density ...
