Evaluation of Corrosion Inhibition with AC Impedance Measurements

CORROSION 1981, 1981
AC impedance techniques offer the advantage that low conductivity of the electrolyte does not affect the accuracy of the measurement in the same manner as for DC techniques (1). In addition, mechanistic information can be obtained from the shape of the impedance diagrams (2,3) which is important for the evaluation of corrosion inhibition.

AC Corrosion - A New Challenge to Pipeline Integrity

CORROSION 1998, 1998
Abstract Corrosion of steel by alternating current was investigated as far back as the early 1900’s. These early studies and others in the 1950-60’s indicated that AC corrosion of steel was only a fraction of an equivalent amount of direct current (i.e.

Requirements of Coupon AC Current Density Affecting AC Corrosion of Buried Steel Pipelines

CORROSION 2015, 2015
Abstract Coupons simulating the coating defects have been used to evaluate cathodic protection level of steel structures. This paper aims to provide requirements for coupon AC current density as affecting AC corrosion of cathodically protected steel pipelines.

Techniques for AC Impedance Measurements in Corrosion Systems

CORROSION 1987, 1987
Abstract A review is presented of methods of measurement of AC impedance data, with particular reference to corrosion systems. Consideration is given to limitations on precision imposed by electronic effects in the peripheral circuits, and geometric effects in the electrochemical cell or corrosion system.

AC Corrosion in Shared Corridors with Multiple Circuits

Materials Performance
Greater electrical power demands in North America drive the need for new electric transmission lines with multiple circuits and to evaluate alternating current (AC) corrosion hazards. Unlike single-circuit corridors, AC corrosion analysis for multiple circuits under maximum transmission line loading may significantly underestimate the maximum induced ...

Overprotection’s Role in AC Corrosion: A Case Study

Materials Performance
The risk of alternating current (AC) corrosion is notably linked to underground pipelines running parallel to high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) lines, especially in areas with technological corridors. The spread of AC-powered railways has increased AC interference sources, while advanced coatings on pipelines have heightened insulation and the ...
