AC drive with particular reference to traction drives
APSCOM-97. International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 1997New developments in the design of high speed electric trains are discussed, with reference to the AC drive system. The three level converter-inverter system applying advanced IGBTs, which is implemented in the latest Shinkansen train sets operating in eastern Japan between Tokyo and Nagano, is described.

Proceedings of 5th International Conference on Power Electronics and Variable-Speed Drives, 1994
In variable-speed AC or DC drives, improved responses can be obtained by using fuzzy logic control. The paper discusses the application of fuzzy logic to variable-speed drives and gives a general overview of the structure of fuzzy controllers and various aspects of fuzzy-control. A new fuzzified controller is also introduced.

Improving the efficiency of AC-drives
2013 Brazilian Power Electronics Conference, 2013New standards for power losses measurement for variable speed drives are presented. The power losses of typical variable speed drives are analyzed and future alternatives to increase their efficiency investigated. Solutions with Silicon (Si) technology in Three-Level topology or Silicon Carbide (SiC) switches in Two-Level circuit are possibilities to ...

Application of an AC winder drive
Annual Technical Conference on Pulp and Paper Industry, 2002The first major installation of AC adjustable speed drive technology in North America was in 1987 on a Kraft linerboard machine at Union Camp Corporation's (UCC) Savannah, GA, papermill. The success of that installation led to the application of AC drive technology to a high-speed electric backstand winder in the UCC Savannah mill in 1988-9.

The speed of an AC motor depends on the speed of the rotating magnetic field, which is proportional to the frequency of the AC supply. Speed control is therefore possible with a power electronic controller which can generate a variable frequency. The majority of AC variable-speed drive systems use a DC/AC inverter to generate the required variable ...

Variable-speed drives comprising static inverters and squirrel-cage induction machines have attractive characteristics and are suitable for use in many industrial applications. A major attribute of some of these drives is their very high energy efficiency, and this paper is a presentation of the results of an experimental investigation into the factors

Today all variable speed drives (VSDs) in the metallurgical industry are AC drives. These range from simple Volts/Hertz (V/Hz) to vector controlled drives. Insulated gate bipolar transistor pulse-width modulated (IGBT PWM) inverters offer power ratings up to a few megawatts.

Diagnosis and monitoring for AC drives
Conference Record of the 1992 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2003An expert system-based fault detection, diagnosis, and monitoring for a voltage source inverter (VSI) fed AC motor drive called EXDIMPED (expert system for diagnosis and monitoring of power electronic drives) is presented. A unique integration of symptom and topology based reasoning has been employed to diagnose a fault. A method of expert system-based
