AC drive with particular reference to traction drives
APSCOM-97. International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management, 1997New developments in the design of high speed electric trains are discussed, with reference to the AC drive system. The three level converter-inverter system applying advanced IGBTs, which is implemented in the latest Shinkansen train sets operating in eastern Japan between Tokyo and Nagano, is described.

Proceedings of 5th International Conference on Power Electronics and Variable-Speed Drives, 1994
In variable-speed AC or DC drives, improved responses can be obtained by using fuzzy logic control. The paper discusses the application of fuzzy logic to variable-speed drives and gives a general overview of the structure of fuzzy controllers and various aspects of fuzzy-control. A new fuzzified controller is also introduced.

Advances in AC drive technology
Proceedings of IEEE Technical Conference on Rubber and Plastics Industry, 2002Today, the adjustable speed AC drive industry is experiencing dynamic advances in applying various new technologies to standard drives which were historically confined to research labs. These advances are leading to many practical benefits for the users of this type of equipment including: lower initial costs, smaller size, robustness to eliminate ...

Proceedings of Second International Conference on Power Electronics and Drive Systems, 2002
Today all variable speed drives (VSDs) in the metallurgical industry are AC drives. These range from simple Volts/Hertz (V/Hz) to vector controlled drives. Insulated gate bipolar transistor pulse-width modulated (IGBT PWM) inverters offer power ratings up to a few megawatts.

Applying large AC drive configurations
[1993] Record of Conference Papers 35th IEEE Cement Industry Technical, 2002Little information is available on how to apply different AC adjustable speed drive (ASD) configurations and the best options for specific applications. Special attention is given to the advantages and disadvantages of different configurations. Application rules for the different types of ASDs are included.

AC drive technology for locomotives
Proceedings., Technical Papers Presented at the IEEE/ASME Joint Railroad Conference, 2003The author describes the use of GTO (gate turn-off) thyristors and microprocessor technology in connection with three-phase AC drive engineering for locomotives. The high power ratings of these devices, combined with efficient evaporation-bath cooling methods, have reduced the size and weight of the necessary powerful onboard converter equipment; AC ...

Position sensorless AC motor drives
2020The papers in this special section focus on position sensorless AC motor drives. Rotor position and speed information is crucial for highperformance ac machine drives. Since the merits, such as cost reduction, system downsizing, and reliability enhancement can be achieved through position sensorless (also noted as self-sensing) control, many techniques
