AC losses in superconducting solenoids

IEEE Transactions on Appiled Superconductivity, 2002
This paper presents an analytical model to determine AC losses in monolayer and multilayer superconducting solenoids. The case of a transformer with several coils is also presented. This model is based on an infinite cylindrical geometry and the Bean model.

AC Loss Effect of High-Order Harmonic Currents in a Single-Phase 6.5 MVA HTS Traction Transformer

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2019
Traction transformer is one of the critical electrical devices in high-speed trains. To increase transformer efficiency up to 99% and reduce weight and fire risks, we are currently building a 6.5 MVA superconducting traction transformer. Assuming 15 as a

Numerical AC Loss Analysis in HTS Stack Carrying Nonsinusoidal Transport Current

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2019
Bifilar coil structure is promising for reducing ac loss in resistive-type superconducting fault current limiters (FCLs). However, the electric power networks could be contaminated with harmonic components due to nonlinear loads and switch converters. We

Strain dependence of critical current and self-field AC loss in Bi-2223/Ag multi-filamentary HTS tapes: a general predictive model

Superconductors Science and Technology, 2019
It is well known that mechanical deformations have a strong impact on the critical current ( I c ) of Bi-2223/Ag multi-filamentary high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tapes, and a remarkable I c degradation is induced, which results in a significant ...

AC losses of transposed superconductors

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1975
Eastham and Rhodes published results of loss measurements on transposed superconducting NbTi cables and concluded basing on an extrapolation to very large numbers of wires that transposed superconductors could be used favourably in cables for power transmission. There are some reasons to question the correctness of their extrapolation.

Additive Manufacturing of Shaped Profile Windings for Minimal AC Loss in Electrical Machines

European Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics, 2018
Concentrated wound, open slot, permanent magnet electrical machines are an attractive topology for automotive and aerospace applications as they exhibit compact end-windings, resulting in high power-density, facilitate fault tolerant operation through ...

The Influence of Flux Diverter Structures on the AC Loss of HTS Transformer Windings

IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity, 2019
Compared to conventional transformers, high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformers have higher efficiency and fewer hazards, whose main loss comes from the ac loss of high temperature superconducting windings carrying ac current.

Losses in AC Superconducting Coils

1989
AC superconducting wires are being developed so as to be applied to electrical machineries. The main concerns in developing the AC superconducting wires are AC losses. In order to assess AC losses in the form of winding, we made two AC superconducting coils having different rated capacities, 500kVA and 20kVA.

Numerical study on critical current and AC loss for different structured stack slotted-core HTS cables

Cryogenics (Guildford), 2019
AC losses occur when high temperature superconducting (HTS) cables are connected by alternating current placed in alternating background magnetic field.

Investigation of AC Copper Loss Considering Effect of Field and Armature Excitation on IPMSM With Hairpin Winding

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2023
As the torque density of traction motors for electric vehicles (EVs) increases, winding technology with a large conductor area, such as hairpin winding, is widely used.
