AC losses in coated conductors
Superconductor Science and Technology, 2010Future use of coated conductors in electric power applications like transmission cables, transformers or fault current limiters is sensitive to the amount of dissipation in the AC regime. This paper analyses factors controlling AC loss of coated conductors in typical configurations: the self-field case when transport current generates the magnetic ...

AC losses in high-temperature superconductors: revisiting the fundamentals of the loss modelling
Physica C: Superconductivity, 1998The fundamentals of the electromagnetic modelling of high-temperature superconductors are discussed. Special attention is paid to intrinsic features of high-temperature superconductors different to those of low-temperature superconductors. Examples of those features are strong thermal fluctuations, which results in enhanced flux creep and slanted E(J ...

Measurement of AC insulation losses at cryogenic temperatures
1976 IEEE International Conference on Electrical Insulation, 1976The design of superconducting transmission cables requires a systems approach which includes consideration of the conductor, insulator, cryogenic envelope and refrigerator. Each component of the system must function satisfactorily without disrupting the other system elements.

AC losses in reversible niobium
Cryogenics, 1972Abstract Losses at 4.2 K in a cylinder of magnetic reversible niobium subjected to a sinusoidal magnetic field within a frequency range of 20–260 c s −1 are reported as well as waveforms related to the penetration of magnetic flux. The observed phenomena are interpreted by considering both the shielding of the bulk by currents at the surface and the

An Analysis of AC loss of Bi-2212 CICC
2018 IEEE International Conference on Applied Superconductivity and Electromagnetic Devices (ASEMD), 2018With the development of magnetic confinement fusion research, more and more stronger magnetic fields are needed. Commonly used superconductor of Nb3Sn in high-field magnets which does not have much potential for improvement. We need to develop conductor with new superconducting materials. Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox is such a promising material.

Loss phenomena in the AC quantum Hall effect
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2001We investigated the ac quantum Hall effect of several GaAs-based samples. The influence of temperature, current, and frequency was measured for the plateaux i=2. Some measurements of the plateaux i=4 were performed to determine the scaling behavior with respect to i.

Ac loss minimum in type II superconductors
Physics Letters A, 1980Abstract Theoretical predictions with respect to a minimum in the ac losses in type II superconductors are compared with experimental results on Nb-50% Ti and Nb-10% Mo. Extensions of the theory are suggested to explain the deviations.

ac-loss valley in type-II superconductors
Physical Review B, 1992Hysteresis losses W have been calculated as a function of temperature T, bias field ${\mathit{H}}_{\mathit{b}}$, and amplitude ${\mathit{h}}_{0}$ for planar geometry in the critical-state framework with ${\mathit{j}}_{\mathit{c}}$=\ensuremath{\alpha}(T)/${\mathit{B}}^{\mathit{n}}$ for n=0, 1/2, and 1 in the range ${\mathit{H}}_{\mathit{b}}$/${\mathit{h}

Comparison of calculated and measured losses in direct AC-AC converters
2001 IEEE 32nd Annual Power Electronics Specialists Conference (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37230), 2002This paper is concerned with modelling, predicting and experimental measurement of semiconductor losses in direct AC-AC (matrix) converters. All of the commutation scenarios possible in a matrix converter topology using two or four step commutation are identified and studied.
