New capacitive synchronous AC machine
2015 17th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'15 ECCE-Europe), 2015The paper proposes a new type of the synchronous AC machine operated on a principle of the electric field effect. The proposed machine has smaller size and lighter weight than the standard electromagnetic synchronous machines with the same rated parameters.

Dynamical Models of AC Machines
2015This chapter presents a detailed review of the basic concepts describing the mechanical and electrical behavior of alternative current (AC) machines, which will be used extensively in the following chapters. AC machines, specifically the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and the induction motor (IM), will be studied.

Preliminary study on AC superconducting machines
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1988Issues involved in developing AC superconducting machines are reviewed with respect to the development of a superconducting coil and the overcurrent protection system of a superconducting transformer. A 4-kVA superconducting coil using 100-A-class 50/60-Hz superconductors was made and tested.

Practical Control of AC Machine
2020The electric machine based on a control system with the machine model is not a simple task but requires necessary simulation tools to understand its basic operation. The complexity of their models suggests performing first simulations both in open and closed loop, without using an electric drive (VSI or DC servo stage).

Dynamics of AC electrical machines
[1992] Record of Conference Papers Industry Applications Society 39th Annual Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference, 1992The concepts of natural frequency, critical speed, excitation, mechanical resonance, damping, torsional excitation, torsional critical speeds, unbalanced magnetic pull, and magnetic instability are defined and placed in context. The author seeks to encourage the use of technically justified words and phrases in the technical literature.

Fault detection in large AC machines
ICM 2001 Proceedings. The 13th International Conference on Microelectronics., 2001The emerging techniques of artificial neural networks (ANNs) are applied to the problem of developing an artificial neural system capable of detecting interlayer faults in large AC machines using line-end coil voltage measurements. The proposed ANN system is a two-layer back propagation neural network, which is basically a classifier capable of ...

AC electrical machines can act as generators to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy or motors to convert electrical energy into mechanical energy. This chapter discusses synchronous machines, and induction machines. Example problems with solutions as well as actual problems in AC machines were also provided in the end of this chapter.

The commutator in a DC machine performs a complex function which we have not attempted to analyse in detail; the performance equations, on the other hand, are relatively simple. With the AC synchronous and induction machines, the situation is reversed. The absence of a commutator simplifies both the structure and the detailed analysis, but the machine ...

Unbalanced Operations of AC Machines
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1965In this paper, unbalanced operations of induction and synchronous machines are discussed. The current-voltage differential equations, referred to the moving reference axes ? and s, are derived directly from the general equations of armature reaction and induced voltage.

Observability Property of AC Machines
2015In many cases the implementation of control algorithms requires the knowledge of all the components of the state vector. However, because of the high cost of sensors, the reduction of the physical space inside or around the motor, the weight, or the increase of the system complexity, it is often necessary to limit the number of sensors.
