Designing LC filters for AC-motor drives

IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002
This paper presents practical design guidelines for designing LC filters for AC-motor drive applications. A DC choke and an electrolytic capacitor bank on the DC bus filter the voltage and the current ripples and improve the input power factor. Capacitor and choke values are derived to optimize overall filter performance.

DSP-based solutions for AC motor drives

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1999
The advent of programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) is creating a revolution in monitoring, control, and testing of motor drives. Their special architecture and high performance make it possible to implement a wide variety of nontrivial control and measurement algorithms at high sampling rates and reasonable cost.

Position sensorless AC motor drives

2020
The papers in this special section focus on position sensorless AC motor drives. Rotor position and speed information is crucial for highperformance ac machine drives. Since the merits, such as cost reduction, system downsizing, and reliability enhancement can be achieved through position sensorless (also noted as self-sensing) control, many techniques

Matrix converter-driven AC motor drives

2019
The matrix converter (MC) is an AC-AC power converter topology. The MC topologies are classified into two types: direct MC (DMC) and the indirect MC (IMC) [I]. The IMC topology is composed of a rectifier with six bidirectional switches (BDSs) and a conventional voltage source inverter (VSI).

Single-Phase Induction Motor and AC Drives

2018
This chapter presents the working principle and modeling of the single-phase induction motor (SPIM), as well as the control strategies of the SPIM with several different power electronics device-based variable frequency AC drives. The SPIM has been widely used for the water pumps, compressors, and fans with no tough demand for high performance and they

Digital systems drive variable-speed AC motors

IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1991
AC and DC drives are compared, and the advantages of the former are outlined. Current-source converters and voltage- source converters with constant link voltage are reviewed, and modular software for application control is discussed. The software structure of the SAMI STAR is examined.

A Neurofuzzy Application for AC Motor Drives Monitoring System

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2004
Currently industrial applications require suitable monitoring systems able to identify any decrease in efficiency resulting in economic losses. This paper shows that the information coming from a general purpose monitoring system can be usefully exploited to realize a sensorless instrument for the monitoring of an ac motor drive, and can be fed to a ...

Current-Source Converter for AC Motor Drives

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1972
The employment of current-source concepts in thyristor converters to obtain adjustable frequency and adjustable current waveforms is presented. The use of a dc filter choke and a current feedback loop to produce a regenerative current source is explained.

Transient Performance of Permanent Magnet AC Motor Drives

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1986
The transient behavior of permanent magnet ac motor drives is analyzed. A new model is proposed where particular emphasis is placed on the role that armature reaction and saturation effect play on the flux distribution of the machine. Equations for calculation of these fluxes are deduced and verified by experimental tests on the machine.

Parameter Sensitivity In Vector Controlled Ac Motor Drives

SPIE Proceedings, 1987
The relatively recent development of the theory of vector control has enabled ac machines to be transformed, performance wise, into equivalent separately excited dc machines while retaining the many advantages that ac machines have over dc. The ac machines used include the induction and permanent magnet synchronous motors.
