Fault-tolerant reversible ac motor drive system
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2002This paper investigates a fault tolerant three-phase AC/AC converter topology. With such a topology, when either one leg of the input rectifier, or one leg of the output inverter, is lost, the power flow between the grid and the load can still be controlled effectively. The topology proposed and its operating principles are presented.

Mill motors for adjustable-speed AC drives
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1993AC adjustable speed drives are being considered for many rolling mill applications. The author describes AC motor characteristics, and how they relate to adjustable speed mill drives. Included is a review of AC motor theory highlighting distinctions between induction and synchronous machines along with comparisons to DC motor performance.

Designing LC filters for AC-motor drives
IAS '95. Conference Record of the 1995 IEEE Industry Applications Conference Thirtieth IAS Annual Meeting, 2002This paper presents practical design guidelines for designing LC filters for AC-motor drive applications. A DC choke and an electrolytic capacitor bank on the DC bus filter the voltage and the current ripples and improve the input power factor. Capacitor and choke values are derived to optimize overall filter performance.

Effects of voltage sags on AC motor drives
1997 IEEE Annual Textile, Fiber and Film Industry Technical Conference, 2002Voltage sags are normally described by magnitude variation and duration. In addition to these quantities, sags are also characterized by unbalance (asymmetry), nonsinusoidal waveshapes, and phase angle shift (phase jump). These factors are important for determining the behavior of AC motor drives during sags.

DSP-based solutions for AC motor drives
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1999The advent of programmable digital signal processors (DSPs) is creating a revolution in monitoring, control, and testing of motor drives. Their special architecture and high performance make it possible to implement a wide variety of nontrivial control and measurement algorithms at high sampling rates and reasonable cost.

Independent Drive of Multiple AC Motors Using Amplitude Modulation
2020 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2020With the recent development of electric drive technology, systems with multiple electric motors are increasingly used in various applications. Among them, methods of driving multiple electric motors by using only one power source is studied. This multi-motor drive system contributes to the reduction of the number of power supplies and electric parts ...

Current-Source Converter for AC Motor Drives
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1972The employment of current-source concepts in thyristor converters to obtain adjustable frequency and adjustable current waveforms is presented. The use of a dc filter choke and a current feedback loop to produce a regenerative current source is explained.

Flexible Series/Parallel AC–DC–AC Motor Drive System
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015This paper presents a three-phase ac–dc–ac drive system to cope with applications in which high performance and reliability are required with reduced dc-link and switch blocking voltages. The subsystem at the grid-side can be implemented into two alternatives, i.e., topologies G1 and G2.

Synchronous motors for AC adjustable-speed drives
Conference Record of 1993 Annual Pulp and Paper Industry Technical Conference, 2002Many power engineers have struggled with ideas of standard and special synchronous motor designs as those concepts relate to LCI (load commutators inverter) drives. Today many engineers accept the premise that LCI motors belong in a category unto themselves, different from 'standard' synchronous motors.
