Historical birth records from 1896 to 1944 from the Basel maternity hospital, Switzerland, reveal significant obstetric selection pressures

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality have declined dramatically during the last century. Historical data are therefore important sources to study the evolutionary selection pressures related to childbirth and how they have fluctuated over time.

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Residency Research Quality Outweighs Quantity in Predicting Sports Medicine Fellowship Placement

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To determine whether academic productivity during residency correlates with the type of orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship program attended. Methods All orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education were identified by cross‐referencing databases from the Arthroscopy ...

Anterior Cruciate Ligament Injury Prevention Program Implementation for High School Athletes Is Extremely Low and Faces Surmountable Barriers

open access: yesArthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Purpose To assess the rates of usage of anterior cruciate ligament injury prevention programs (AIPPs) among high school athletes and identify barriers to implementation. Methods After Institutional Review Board exemption, high school sports teams covered by a regional multispecialty orthopaedic practice were identified.

Legal and ethical considerations around the use of existing illustrations to generate new illustrations in the anatomical sciences

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 289-300, March 2025.
Abstract It is likely existing anatomical illustrations are often used as the basis for new illustrative works, given not all illustrators have access to human tissues, bodies, or prosections on which to base their illustrations. Potential issues arise with this practice in the realms of copyright infringement and plagiarism when authors are seeking to

Body donor programs in Australia and New Zealand: Current status and future opportunities

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 301-328, March 2025.
Abstract Body donation is critical to anatomy study in Australia and New Zealand. Annually, more than 10,000 students, anatomists, researchers, and clinicians access tissue donated by local consented donors through university‐based body donation programs. However, little research has been published about their operations.

Modern competency‐based teaching of human sexual development

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Embryology is an integral part of anatomy and a key subject in basic medical education. The development of the sexual tract, which is closely associated with the formation of the urinary tract and the organs of continence, is particularly complex and relevant for many medical disciplines.
