Is Acanthaster planci a near-optimal predator?
Ecological Modelling, 1989Abstract A two-dimensional model of the population dynamics of the crown of thorns starfish ( Acanthaster planci ) and its coral prey is constructed and analysed. The notion of a suboptimal-superoptimal continuum for the starfish predator is introduced. It is suggested that A. planci is a near-optimal predator on this continuum, and that population
