Comparative effectiveness of acaricides

open access: yesScientific Messenger of LNU of Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies, 2020
The use of chemicals is the main method of controlling ectoparasites around the world. In Ukraine, due to the lack of an effective system for controlling ixodid ticks, there is an annual increase in the number of tick-borne diseases. Prevention of tick bites is largely based on the use of chemical repellents and acaricides.

An economic evaluation of cattle tick acaricide-resistances and the financial losses in subtropical dairy farms of Ecuador: A farm system approach

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
Estimates of economic losses in cattle due to tick infestations in subtropical areas are limited, such as in Ecuador. Ticks affect animal production and health, but those direct effects are difficult to estimate since financial exercises carried out in ...

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of acaricide resistance in Rhipicephalus microplus field isolates from South Africa and Brazil

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Drugs and Drug Resistance
Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus is one of the most successful ticks infesting cattle around the world. This highly-invasive species transmits cattle parasites that cause cattle fever leading to a high socio-economic burden.

Relationship between acaricide resistance and acetylcholinesterase gene polymorphisms in the cattle tick Rhipicephalus microplus

open access: yesParasite
In this study, we aimed to develop a comprehensive methodology for identifying amino acid polymorphisms in acetylcholinesterase transcript 2 (AChE2) in acaricide-resistant Rhipicephalus microplus ticks.

Anti-tick effect and cholinesterase inhibition caused by Prosopis juliflora alkaloids: in vitro and in silico studies

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2020
We investigated the in vitro acaricide activity of the methanolic extract (ME) and alkaloid-rich fraction (AF) of Prosopis juliflora on Rhipicephalus microplus and correlated this effect with acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibition. The acaricide activity
