Repeated evolution of herbicide resistance in Lolium multiflorum revealed by haplotype‐resolved analysis of acetyl‐CoA carboxylase

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, 2023
Herbicide resistance in weeds is one of the greatest challenges in modern food production. The grass species Lolium multiflorum is an excellent model species to investigate evolution under similar selection pressure because populations have repeatedly ...

Pro‐197 mutations confer resistance to thiencarbazone but not to foramsulfuron in ALS‐resistant Poa annua populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Foramsulfuron remains effective on Pro‐197 Poa annua, but co‐formulation with thiencarbazone reduces efficacy due to limited activity and antagonism. Therefore, foramsulfuron + thiencarbazone should be used in fields without ALS‐resistant weeds to ensure effective in‐crop control.

The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1697-1716, April 2025.
In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Role of a novel I1781T mutation and other mechanisms in conferring resistance to acetyl-CoA carboxylase inhibiting herbicides in a black-grass population. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Knowledge of the mechanisms of herbicide resistance is important for designing long term sustainable weed management strategies. Here, we have used an integrated biology and molecular approach to investigate the mechanisms of resistance to ...

Enhanced Metabolism Evolved High-Level Resistance to Fenoxaprop-P-Ethyl in Alopecurus japonicus

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Alopecurus japonicus has been a serious weed across China and developed resistance to the acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicide. The A. japonicus ACCase gene mutations accounting for target-site resistance (TSR) have been clarified, while ...

Coupling of both a transactivation module and a double‐stranded DNA‐binding domain boosts Cas12i3 variant‐based cytosine and adenine editing in plants

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Fusions of a transactivation module and a double‐stranded DNA‐binding domain produced effective Cas12i3 variant‐based cytosine and adenine base editors, with improved C‐to‐T and A‐to‐G base editing efficiency and expanded editing window. Generated herbicide‐resistant rice germplasm by using these base editors demonstrates their potential for precise ...

Resistance to ACCase-inhibiting herbicides and isoproturon in UK populations of Lolium multiflorum : mechanisms of resistance and implications for control

open access: yes, 2001
Herbicide-resistant Lolium multiflorum (Italian rye-grass) was first reported in the UK in 1993 and had been confirmed on 25 farms by 1999. In this study, resistance to five herbicides belonging to the aryloxyphenoxypropionate, cyclohexanedlione and ...

Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense (L.) Moench) resistance to cycloxydim, fluazifop and propaquizafop and its impact on growth rate

open access: yesNotulae Botanicae Horti Agrobotanici Cluj-Napoca
One putative-resistant (R) johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense L. Moench) population, originating from a cotton monoculture field in northern Greece, was evaluated for the possible evolution of cross-resistance to acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase)- and ...
