Pindolol and the acceleration of the antidepressant response

Journal of Affective Disorders, 2003
It has been suggested that treatment with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in combination with pindolol, a partial agonist at the 5-HT(1A) receptor, may produce a fast antidepressant response. However, inconsistent results have been obtained in clinical studies with combination of the two drugs.

Ventilatory response to forward acceleration

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1960
Two series of experiments dealing with the effect of forward acceleration on respiration in man were performed. In both series of studies the trunk was inclined 12 degrees in the direction of acceleration and a rate of onset of 1 g/sec. was used. In the first series, the effect of 5, 8 and 12 g on respiratory frequency, tidal volume, minute volume and

Response of a String to an Accelerating Mass

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1976
The response of a string to a mass particle undergoing a constant horizontal acceleration from rest has been calculated. The string deflection is expressed in terms of the transverse mass motion. A delay-differential equation is solved both numerically and asymptotically for the mass velocity.

Acceleration responsive transducers

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1987
An improved vibration-responsive device is provided for monitoring the condition of a selected apparatus. The improved device is adapted to be mounted (25) to the selected apparatus and comprises a vibration-responsive transducer (8, 10) capable of generating an electrical output signal when the transducer is subjected to vibrations or shock, an ...

The connective tissue response to immobility: An accelerated ageing response?☆

Experimental Gerontology, 1968
Abstract A certain similarity between changes secondary to lack of extremity function and those of ageing has stimulated the present inquiry. The chemical changes occurring in immobility are described and compared with available information on such changes in the ageing process.

Sleep deprivation accelerates the response to nortriptyline

Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry, 1993
1. The authors examined the effect of total sleep deprivation (SD) in combination with nortriptyline in 20 patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Patients underwent a 36-hour SD procedure followed by nortriptyline started on the evening after SD, with ratings for two weeks. 2.

Accelerated Immune Response to DNA Vaccines

DNA and Cell Biology, 2003
DNA vaccines offer considerable promise for improvement over conventional vaccines. For the crucial step of delivering DNA vaccines intracellularly, electroporation (EP) has proven to be highly effective. This method has yielded powerful humoral and cellular responses in various species, including nonhuman primates. In an attempt to further improve DNA

Characteristics of the VOR in Response to Linear Acceleration

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1999
Abstract: The primate linear VOR (LVOR) includes two forms. First, eye‐movement responses to translation [e.g., horizontal responses to interaural (IA) motion] help maintain binocular fixation on targets, and therefore a stable bifoveal image. The translational LVOR is strongly modulated by fixation distance, and operates with high‐pass dynamics (> ...

Accelerated Antidepressant Response in Geriatric Inpatients

The American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, 1994
Six elderly depressed inpatients were treated for 2 weeks with low doses of nortriptyline and fluoxeline in combination. All patients showed significant reductions in depressive symptoms with minimal side effects. Clinical improvement appeared unrelated to whether plasma levels of nortriptyline were therapeutic.

Structural response of a railgun accelerator

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1995
The results of numerical simulation of the bore deformation and barrel dynamics are presented in the paper. The two-dimensional problem of the stress-strained state and dynamics of a multi-layer cylinder under the action of moving load is solved. The algorithm developed is applicable to the problem of the dynamics of the barrels of any cross section ...
