Design and performances of a compact differential pumping unit for X‐ray beamlines

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
We present a compact differential pumping unit with apertures ≥500 µm. It allows windowless operation for in‐air sample environments as well as to connect low‐quality in‐vacuum sample environments to the beamline UHV section. The unit also protects the UHV section from accidental venting.

Gradual pollen release in a buzz‐pollinated plant: Investigating pollen presentation theory under bee visitation

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract The rate at which flowers dispense pollen across successive pollinator visits is a key functional trait influencing male reproductive success. Pollen presentation theory (PPT) predicts that when pollinators are abundant and actively groom their bodies to collect pollen,

Enhanced thermoregulation abilities of shortfin mako sharks as the key adaptive significance of regional endothermy in fishes

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
We show that regionally endothermic shortfin mako sharks have enhanced thermoregulatory ability with an order higher warming rate than cooling rate during repeated dives, likely optimizing foraging efficiency. This ability, only comparable to bigeye tuna and swordfish in teleosts, represents the key adaptive significance of regional endothermy in ...

Using accelerometer‐based behavioural classification to enhance scavenger conservation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
We provide a tool to help identify vulture feeding hotspots, supporting carcass management efforts to prevent poisoning. Integrated with near real‐time tracking, our model can support global efforts to combat scavenger poisoning. The training dataset, model and codes are provided in a user‐friendly platform, along with a conceptual framework, to ...
