Validation of a consumer-grade activity monitor for continuous daily activity monitoring in individuals with multiple sclerosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background:Technological advancements of remote-monitoring used in clinical-care and research require validation of model updates. Objectives:To compare the output of a newer consumer-grade accelerometer to a previous model in people with multiple ...

Residential Neighbourhood Environments and Health Behaviours Among Children and Adolescents Initiating Obesity Management Care: Secondary Analyses of Data From the CANadian Paediatric Weight Management Registry (CANPWR)

open access: yesPediatric Obesity, Volume 21, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Examine associations between neighbourhood characteristics and health behaviours (physical activity, screen time, sleep duration) in boys and girls initiating obesity management care across Canada. Methods We analysed cross‐sectional data from the CANadian Paediatric Weight management Registry (2013–2017) for 803 participants (with ...

The ecology of feral cats (Felis catus) on a New Zealand offshore island : considerations for management : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Pholosophy in Zoology at Massey University, Manawatu, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Invasive species have contributed to the global biodiversity crisis, with the majority of recentday terrestrial vertebrate extinctions implicating invasive predators. Domestic cats (Felis catus), particularly feral cats, are among the main culprits. In

The Influence of 25‐ and 90‐Min Afternoon Nap Opportunities on Subsequent Nighttime Sleep in Student Athletes

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT While daytime napping could support recovery in athletes, poorly timed or prolonged naps may interfere with nighttime sleep. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effect of two different, well‐timed nap opportunity durations, 25 and 90 min, on subsequent objectively measured nighttime sleep in student athletes.

Predicting Sleep and Sleep Stage in Children Using Actigraphy and Heartrate via a Long Short‐Term Memory Deep Learning Algorithm: A Performance Evaluation

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Children's ambulatory sleep is commonly measured via actigraphy. However, traditional actigraphy measured sleep (e.g., Sadeh algorithm) struggles to predict wake (i.e., specificity, values typically < 70) and cannot predict sleep stages. Long short‐term memory (LSTM) is a machine learning algorithm that may address these deficiencies.

Substitutions of Sleep, Physical Activity, and Sedentary Behaviour and the Risk of Dementia and Stroke

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 35, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Sleep, sedentary behaviour, and physical activity (PA) are important for brain health. Spending more time in one behaviour always substitutes time in another, which may affect associations and should be considered in prevention strategies. We assessed how substitutions of sleep, sedentary behaviour, and PA are associated with incident dementia

Associations of physical activity with phase angle in adolescents living with HIV: The moderating and mediating roles of physical fitness

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, February 2026.
The graphical abstract illustrates the association between physical activity levels and cellular health in adolescents living with HIV (ALHIV). Cellular health was assessed using phase angle (PhA), derived from bioelectrical impedance analysis, a marker of cell membrane integrity and body cell mass.
