Use of OC curves in quality control with an example of sampling for mycotoxins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An ‘operating characteristics’ (OC) curve is a simple tool that has been in use in quality control for many years but does not seem to be widely applied in the particulate sampling field.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Group acceptance sampling plan based on truncated life tests using extended odd Weibull exponential distribution with application to the mortality rate of COVID-19 patients

open access: yesAIP Advances
This study examines group acceptance sampling plans for many items evaluated together, with the product lifetime following the extended odd Weibull exponential (EOWEx) distribution. Significant design parameters are derived when the consumer risk and the

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Product Acceptance Determination with Measurement Error Using the Neutrosophic Statistics

open access: yesAdvances in Fuzzy Systems, 2019
The variable data is obtained from the measurement process which is not fully complete or clear in nature due to measurement error. The neutrosophic statistics which is the extension of classical statistics can be applied in the industry for the lot ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Attribute Sampling Plan for Submitted Lots Based on Prior Information and Bayesian Approach

open access: yesMathematics
An acceptance sampling plan is a method used to make a decision about acceptance or rejection of a product based on adherence to a standard. Meanwhile, prior information, such as the process capability index (PCI), has been applied in different ...
