Accessory breast tissue is a remnant persisting after normal embryological development of the breast. Although accessory breasts may be asymptomatic, they can cause discomfort during menstruation, anxiety, cosmetic problems, pain, or restriction of arm movement.

Fibroadenoma in the Bilateral Accessory Axillary Breast

The authors treated a case of bilateral accessory axillary breast tissue. Excision with histologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of fibroadenoma. Treatment left the woman with incision scars (3.5 cm) in the axillary pyramid, a location often not seen during a patient's normal movements.

The prevalence rate of accessory breast in the axillary is 2–6%. Accessory breast needs to be removed, as there can be bulging locally and pain, which occurs rarely. Removal of accessory breast may eliminate the incidence of carcinoma and fibroadenoma, which occur in accessory breast.
