Fermented mistletoe extract as a multimodal antitumoral agent in gliomas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In Europe, commercially available extracts from the white-berry mistletoe (Viscum album L.) are widely used as a complementary cancer therapy. Mistletoe lectins have been identified as main active components and exhibit cytotoxic effects as well as ...

Male triple negative axillary accessory breast cancer—a case report

open access: yesTranslational Cancer Research, 2021
Background Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women worldwide. In men, cases of breast cancer are few and account for less than 1% of all cases of breast cancer. Majority of male breast cancer is hormone receptor-positive. The incidence of

Detecting homologous recombination deficiency for breast cancer through integrative analysis of genomic data

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study develops a semi‐supervised classifier integrating multi‐genomic data (1404 training/5893 validation samples) to improve homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) detection in breast cancer. Our method demonstrates prognostic value and predicts chemotherapy/PARP inhibitor sensitivity in HRD+ tumours.

Dose‐dependent induction of epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in 3D melanoma models by non‐thermal plasma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐thermal plasma treatment of melanoma cells induced epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a dose‐dependent fashion. This report highlights the critical need to further investigate potential adverse effects of non‐thermal plasma for cancer therapy and to optimize treatment parameters for clinical translation. Despite the promising results of non‐

Somatic BRCA2 Mutation-Positive Concurrent Accessory Male Breast Cancer (BC) and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC): Excellent Efficacy of Palbociclib, Fulvestrant and Leuprolide in Platinum-Exposed and Endocrine-Refractory BC Associated with Cyclin D1 and FGFR1 Amplification and of Carboplatin, Paclitaxel and Radiation in NSCLC. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Accessory male breast cancer (BC) is a rare entity and is associated with poor outcome. We report a 76-year-old patient who was diagnosed with concurrent accessory breast and primary lung cancer, both were positive for somatic BRCA-2 (E1593D) mutation ...

Mechanical suppression of osteolytic bone metastases in advanced breast cancer patients: A randomised controlled study protocol evaluating safety, feasibility and preliminary efficacy of exercise as a targeted medicine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Skeletal metastases present a major challenge for clinicians, representing an advanced and typically incurable stage of cancer. Bone is also the most common location for metastatic breast carcinoma, with skeletal lesions identified in over 80%

Cardiac evaluation of young athletes: Time for a risk-based approach? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Pre-participation cardiovascular screening (PPCS) is recommended by several scientific and sporting organizations on the premise that early detection of cardiac disease provides a platform for individualized risk assessment and management; which has been

Molecular imaging predicts trastuzumab‐deruxtecan (T‐DXd) response in head and neck cancer xenograft models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Trastuzumab‐deruxtecan, a HER2‐targeting antibody‐drug conjugate, shows promising antitumor activity in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma with low HER2 expression. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated dose‐dependent cell death and tumor growth reduction in low HER2‐expressing cell lines, which correlated with drug accumulation measured using a

A case report and genetic characterization of a massive acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid with delayed distant metastases. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We describe the presentation, management, and clinical outcome of a massive acinic cell carcinoma of the parotid gland. The primary tumor and blood underwent exome sequencing which revealed deletions in CDKN2A as well as PPP1R13B, which induces p53.
