Bayesian networks and traffic accident reconstruction

Proceedings of the 9th international conference on Artificial intelligence and law - ICAIL '03, 2003
The attempt to draw rational conclusions about a road accident can be viewed as a problem in uncertain reasoning about a particular event, to which developments in the modeling of uncertain reasoning for artificial intelligence can be applied. Physical principles can be used to develop a structural model for the accident, and this model can then be ...

Motorcycle Accident Reconstruction

2022
Accident reconstruction utilizes principles of physics and empirical data to analyze the physical, electronic, video, audio, and testimonial evidence from a crash, to determine how and why the crash occurred, how the crash could have been avoided, or to determine whose description of the crash is most accurate.

Hydroplaning and Accident Reconstruction

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1995
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Automobile hydroplaning speed is affected by both the vehicle load on the tire and its inflation pressure, yet only inflation pressure is used in Horne's (1968) equation. He later (1984) made modifications to include a vehicle's tire footprint characteristics. Dunlap et al.

The Vocabulary of Accident Reconstruction

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Vehicular accidents occur in everyday life. Their degree of severity is often perceived by the general public based on the amount of human bodily injuries sustained. Nevertheless, accident reconstructionists measure the degree of severity of vehicular accidents by calculating terms that are called Collision ...

An Analysis of 285 Legal Autopsies in Road Accidents—Reconstruction of the Accident

Medicine, Science and the Law, 1971
285 autopsies in fatal road accidents are analysed. A high correlation is found between our interpretation of lesions and police and expert reports. External autopsy is usually sufficient for an exact reconstruction of the accident. Indications for internal autopsy are discussed.

Traffic accident or dumping? – Striking results of a traffic accident reconstruction

Legal Medicine, 2017
An atypical traffic accident scenario should be investigated directly at the crash site from all concerned professions, especially police men, forensic pathologists and technical experts, to get a personal overview and impression of the situation and the opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion.

Accident reconstruction methods

Vehicle System Dynamics, 2009
While reconstructing a car accident, there are several questions that must be answered, such as the movement of all the vehicles involved or of other people involved, or of objects from the point of first visual contact to their rest positions. Time history of velocities, positions as well as crash-related data such as velocity changes, deformation ...

Sensitivity of Accident Reconstruction Calculations

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998
<div class="htmlview paragraph"><i>A number of simplistic formulae, based on particle dynamics, energy, and momentum methods are routinely employed by accident reconstructionists to calculate vehicle speeds immediately prior to impact. It is almost always the case that scene evidence and other information regarding important variables ...

Automated Accident Reconstruction

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1975
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The Simulation Model of Automobile Collisions (SMAC) computer program was developed by Calspan Corporation as an aid with which to accurately reconstruct road accidents. Part of the overall objective of the research has been to make the system “user oriented” so that users without an engineering background can ...

Crash Phase Accident Reconstruction

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1986
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Two algorithms, CRASH and IMPAC, used to calculate crash delta-V and impact velocity are compared. Each is observed to have common features but important differences. Error sources from restitution and intervehicle friction are discussed.
