Correlated Accidents [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2016
This paper investigates cases in which harms are statistically correlated. When parties are risk averse, correlation plays an important role in the choice between liability rules. Specifically, positively correlated harms favor a liability rule that spreads the risk over a multitude of parties, as in the negligence rule.

A Bayesian Network Approach to Causation Analysis of Road Accidents Using Netica

open access: yes, 2017
Based on an overall consideration of factors affecting road safety evaluations, the Bayesian network theory based on probability risk analysis was applied to the causation analysis of road accidents.

Capillary Dynamics Analysis of Millimetric Tubes for Anti‐Slip Surfaces: A Phase‐Field Based Finite Element Approach and Experimental Validation

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Phase‐field method based numerical modelling of the capillary rise in millimeter‐sized tubes, aiming for anti‐slip applications. The experimental validation was performed through capillary assays in polyethylene oxide (PEO) bulk modified polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) channels.

Experience of technological and natural disasters and their impact on the perceived risk of nuclear accidents after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan 2011: A cross-country analysis. [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper uses cross-country data compiled immediately after the Fukushima nuclear accident to investigate how the experience of such disasters affects the perception of the risk of nuclear accidents. Estimation results show that the perceived risk of a

Single‐Cell RNA Sequencing of Retina Reveals Nna1 Upregulation in Myopic Diabetic Retinopathy as a Protective Factor Against Diabetic Damage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates a schematic overview of the mechanistic pathways. The relationship between myopia and DR has long been of clinical interest. In diabetic mice, Nna1 expression is downregulated, whereas in diabetic mice with FDM, Nna1 expression is upregulated–particularly in Müller cells–accompanied by decreased vascular endothelial growth ...

A New Approach to Prevent Injuries Related to Manual Handling of Carts: Correcting Resistive Forces between Floors and Wheels to Evaluate the Maximal Load Capacity

open access: yesSafety
Test methods that use pushing forces to evaluate the maximal load capacities of carts in design standards require a flat, smooth and horizontal steel plate and thus do not take into account the real conditions of work.
