Records of the Crowned Eagle (Urubitinga coronata) in Moxos plains of Bolivia and observations about breeding behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

A Socioecological Assessment of Vulture Abundance and Community Perceptions Before and After Landfill Site Shift in Pokhara, Nepal

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT South Asia is home to nine species of vultures, and Nepal hosts all of them. Remarkably, all these species have also been recorded in Pokhara. This could be attributed to Pokhara's location along bird migration pathways and the year‐round availability of food sources for most of the vulture species, including the landfill.

Overwintering and Resident Birds in Qatar: Explorations With DNA Barcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
We obtained DNA barcodes for 115 birds (34 species, 12 orders) in Qatar, a country with no previous barcode sequence data for wild birds. We provide insights on locally breeding species and overwintering migrants. ABSTRACT Genetic research is unevenly distributed across the globe, with most research done in temperate zones.

Non-Invasive Sex Determination of Nestlings and Adult Bonelli’s Eagles Using Morphometrics

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
Biometric analysis allows the sexing of most vertebrates, particularly birds. Birds of prey, and, especially, the Bonelli’s eagle (Aquila fasciata), show reverse sexual dimorphism (i.e., females are usually larger than males).

Tracing Waterbirds in Water: A Pilot Study on the Utility of eDNA Monitoring for Inland Australian Waterbirds

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Australia's vast network of inland wetlands attracts thousands of waterbirds to congregate and breed during ‘boom’ periods of rainfall and productivity. Monitoring waterbird biodiversity predominantly relies on annual aerial and ground‐based surveys, which may miss rare or elusive species of conservation importance.

Gastrointestinal and external parasites of the Variable hawk Geranoaetus polyosoma (Accipitriformes: Accipitridae) in Chile [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2019
Abstract Information about parasites associated with diurnal raptors from Chile is scarce. Between 2006 and 2017, a total of 15 specimens of the Variable hawk, Geranoaetus polyosoma (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824) were collected, 14 of them from different localities in the Biobío region and one specimen from the Valparaíso region. An external examination of

Trends in Richness and Occupancy of Ugandan Birds and Relation to Local Tree Cover

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 4, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Changes in vegetation cover are occurring across sub‐Saharan Africa and can have substantial effects on ecological communities, but limited data make understanding status and trends difficult for many taxa. We surveyed birds for several decades across Uganda using point counts.
