The Role of Gravitational Instabilities in the Feeding of Supermassive Black Holes

open access: yesAdvances in Astronomy, 2012
I review the recent progresses that have been obtained, especially through the use of high-resolution numerical simulations, on the dynamics of self-gravitating accretion discs.

Accretion Disc Viscosity [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1996
AbstractWe review the various physical processes that could lead to viscosity in accretion discs. A local magnetic dynamo offers the most plausible mechanism and we discuss a simple model in some detail. The dynamo operates even in partially and very weakly ionized discs without much modification.

Global 3D MHD Simulations of Waves in Accretion Discs

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
We discuss results of the first global 3D MHD simulations of warp and density waves in accretion disks excited by a rotating star with a misaligned dipole magnetic field. A wide range of cases are considered.

Data analysis of the structure and use of library collections available in public libraries in Ljubljana between 1990 – 2000

open access: yesKnjižnica, 2002
The main goal of our research was to establish the extent to which recordings on magnetic tapes and optical discs were incorporated into library materials offered by public libraries, which are located in the area of the municipal community of Ljubljana.

Black Hole Accretion Discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This is an introduction to models of accretion discs around black holes. After a presentation of the non-relativistic equations describing the structure and evolution of geometrically thin accretion discs we discuss their steady-state solutions and compare them to observation.

2D MODELLING OF THE GAS FLOW STRUCTURE IN THE SYMBIOTIC STAR Z ANDROMEDAE

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2017
The 2D gasdynamical simulations of gas structure in the symbiotic star Z And have been carried out for different stellar wind regimes. Since the mechanisms of gas acceleration in stellar atmospheres are not well studied, the parametric representation of ...

AGN Accretion Discs

open access: yes, 2023
I present the elements of accretion-disc physics applied to active galactic nuclei. The accretion driving mechanisms are discussed, then models of geometrically-thin discs, both stationary and time-dependent, are addressed. Disc's self-gravitation in the AGN context is presented.

Accretion Disc Instabilities [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1992
I give a brief discussion of accretion disc instabilities, concentrating mainly on tidal instabilities caused by the presence of a binary companion. The superhumps observed in superoutbursts of SU UMa dwarf novae probably result from the excitation of a resonance in the accretion disc near the 3:1 commensurability with the binary orbit.

Quasiperiodic Oscillations and Dynamics of Test Particles around Quasi- and Non-Schwarzschild Black Holes

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
One of the open problems in black hole physics is testing spacetime around black holes through astrophysical observations in the strong field regime. In fact, black holes cannot produce radiation themselves in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Massive gaseous discs around SMBH binaries: Binary decay and tidal disruptions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
We investigate the evolution of black hole binaries embedded within geometrically thin gas discs. Our results imply that such discs can produce black hole mergers for relatively low-mass binaries, and that a significant population of eccentric binaries ...
