How Accretionary Prisms Elucidate Seismogenesis in Subduction Zones

2007
Earthquakes occur along the plate-boundary thrusts underlying accretionary prisms and along out-of-sequence thrusts that cut through prisms. Thermal models suggest that the earthquakes on the plate-boundary thrusts initiate in a temperature range of 125oC to ~350oC.

Growth of Accretionary Prisms: Tectonic Processes from Caribbean Examples

1986
Abstract Accretionary prisms will develop in front of active margins when some amount of sediments is present on the subducting plate. Accretion will first consist of sediment offscraping at the deformation front. Then will follow incorporation of sediments at the top and at the back of the prism, as well as below it (underplating).

Seismotectonic charaterization of the central-northern Apennines accretionary prism.

2010
The main goal of the UR 3.10 is to investigate the seismotectonic characteristics of the accretionary prism in the central and northern Apennines, with a special attention to the emiliano-romagnolo-ferrarese, marchigiano-abruzzese e central Adriatic sectors, whose tectonic activity is quite well documented.
