An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

On the recovery of a function on a circular domain

open access: yes, 2002
We consider the problem of estimating a function f (x, y) on the unit disk {(x, y): x(2) -l- y(2) less than or equal to 1}, given a discrete and noisy data recorded on a regular square grid.

Pure Strategy Saddle Points in the Generalized Progressive Discrete Silent Duel with Identical Linear Accuracy Functions

open access: yesJournal of Information and Organizational Sciences
A finite zero-sum game defined on a subset of the unit square is considered. The game is a generalized progressive discrete silent duel, in which the kernel is skew-symmetric, and the players, referred to as duelists, have identical linear accuracy ...

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Effects of steady state free precession parameters on cardiac mass, function, and volumes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
PURPOSE: We aimed to investigate comparability of LV volumes, function, and mass acquired with three steady-state free precession (SSFP) pulse sequences, simulating typical vendor and protocol specific differences in data acquisition. METHODS: Twenty-one

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

The eGFR-C study: accuracy of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation using creatinine and cystatin C and albuminuria for monitoring disease progression in patients with stage 3 chronic kidney disease - prospective longitudinal study in a multiethnic population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Uncertainty exists regarding the optimal method to estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) for disease detection and monitoring. Widely used GFR estimates have not been validated in British ethnic minority populations.

Membership Score of an Interval-Valued Pythagorean Fuzzy Numbers and Its Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
The main aim of the paper is to define a new Membership score function on the class of interval-valued Pythagorean fuzzy numbers, which can overcome the drawbacks of existing familiar ranking methods.

Evaluating the accuracy of a functional SNP annotation system [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2009
Many common and chronic diseases are influenced at some level by genetic variation. Research done in population genetics, specifically in the area of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) is critical to understanding human genetic variation. A key element in assessing role of a given SNP is determining if the variation is likely to result in change in
