Abdominal wall repair using human acellular dermis

American Journal of Surgery, 2007
The surgical repair of abdominal wall defects that cannot be closed primarily in contaminated fields is a difficult problem. The use of nonabsorbable synthetic materials usually is contraindicated in this setting because of the risk for colonization and chronic infection of the mesh.

The Use of Acellular Human Dermis as a Dorsal Camouflaging Graft in Rhinoplasty

Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine, 2023
Background: Acellular human dermis (AHD) has many uses in rhinoplasty, but its long-term use as a camouflaging graft has not been adequately described. Objective: To measure the long-term outcomes (infections/contour irregularities) of

Culture of rat keratinocytes with acellular pig dermis

British Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2003
This study evaluated the growth rate and the cell activity of cultured keratinocytes on acellular pig dermis in order to develop a composite skin in vitro for burn injuries or other skin defects. Full thickness skin was cultivated from neonatal SD rats, and separated into epidermal layer and dermal layer with enzyme digestion.

Experience with Porcine Acellular Dermis…

World Journal of Surgery, 2007
This editor is compelled to add a comment. It would be reasonable to contend that these novel, rather expensive biomaterials—with thus far unproven longterm results—should be employed only in selected cases, where and when conventional nonbiologic meshes (which are less expensive and of proven long-term durability and results) are contraindicated.

Histologic Analysis of Angiogenesis and Lymphangiogenesis in Acellular Human Dermis

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 2008
Acellular dermal matrix (AlloDerm) is used frequently in a variety of reconstructive procedures. Although it is clear that AlloDerm is revascularized by host tissues, the mechanisms by which vascularization and tissue incorporation occur remain essentially unknown.

Reconstruction of parasacral hernia with acellular human dermis graft

Hernia, 2006
Parasacral hernias are defects through the pelvic floor which occur as the result of sacral resection. These defects are often large, and are frequently the result of treatment for sacral malignancies. This report documents the case of a 71-year-old woman who underwent radical coccygectomy and partial sacrectomy for a chordoma and subsequently ...

Keloid treatment: Is there a role for acellular human dermis (Alloderm)?

Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, 2010
Keloid management is faced with high recurrence rates. Keloid fibroblasts lack the normal negative feedback mechanism resulting in an exuberant scar formation. Alloderm doesn't undergo the same proliferative process as keloidal scar dermis. To evaluate Alloderm as a treatment modality for keloidsA retrospective chart review of six patients with a total ...

Acellular Human Dermis Promotes Cultured Keratinocyte Engraftment

Journal of Burn Care & Rehabilitation, 1997
In full-thickness skin injury, loss of dermis may result in compromised wound repair, including contracture, hypertrophic scarring, and wound breakdown. This report examines the effect of an acellular dermal matrix on in vivo skin repair. Human keratinocytes cultured onto a synthetic hydrophilic dressing were applied with (N = 9) and without (N = 11 ...

Acellular Dermis for Facial Soft Tissue Augmentation

Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, 2001
To evaluate the efficacy of acellular dermis as a viable alternative for soft tissue augmentation in facial reconstruction.A prospective, nonrandomized observational study consisting of 10 patients who underwent soft tissue augmentation with acellular dermis.A tertiary care university medical center in an urban setting.Ten patients who had undergone ...

Acellular dermis compared to skin grafts in oral cavity reconstruction

Laryngoscope, 2009
AbstractObjectives/Hypothesis:To compare the efficacy of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and split thickness skin grafts (STSG) in oral cavity reconstruction.Study Design:Prospective cohort study. Methods:Thirty‐four patients were included in this study (ADM, n = 22; STSG, n = 12).
