Crowdsourcing innovation and product development: Gamification as a motivational driver

open access: yesCogent Business & Management, 2016
Crowdsourcing—outsourcing a job to external contributors through an open call—has become an important part of innovation process and product development. However, many crowdsourcing initiatives fail due to low engagement and participation. In the current

Humid‐Air Condensation Heat Transfer on Hierarchical Structured Superhydrophobic Graphite Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Humid‐air condensation on graphite composites shows that making a surface superhydrophobic is not sufficient to enhance heat transfer. A hierarchical CuO/lauric‐acid coating yields spherical droplets but promotes Wenzel‐type pinning and adds effective thermal resistance under operation.

Clinical Validation of a Deep Learning-Based Software for Lumbar Bone Mineral Density and T-Score Prediction from Chest X-ray Images

open access: yesDiagnostics
Screening for osteoporosis is crucial for early detection and prevention, yet it faces challenges due to the low accuracy of calcaneal quantitative ultrasound (QUS) and limited access to dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. Recent advances in AI

Charge Transfer States in Donor–Acceptor Bulk‐Heterojunctions as Triplet–Triplet Annihilation Sensitizer for Solid‐State Photon Upconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A near‐infrared photosensitizer that facilitates efficient solid‐state photon upconversion by recycling triplets formed within a fullerene‐based donor–acceptor bulk‐heterojunction system is demonstrated. Spectroscopic investigations reveal that the energy of photogenerated charge transfer states of triplet character (3CT) is subsequently transferred to

Effects of combined drought and heavy metal stresses on xylem structure and hydraulic conductivity in red maple (Acer rubrum L.).

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2012
The effects of heavy metal stress, drought stress, and their combination on xylem structure in red maple (Acer rubrum) seedlings were investigated in an outdoor pot experiment.

Predicting Macrophage Spatial Localization from Single‐Cell Transcriptomes to Uncover Disease Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a machine‐learning framework entitled MERLIN that infers the microanatomical localization of macrophages from single‐cell transcriptomic data in structured organs such as the kidney and brain. Applying this method to existing datasets from models of acute kidney injury and diabetic nephropathy uncovered spatially resolved insights ...

Bufalin Inhibits the PI3K/AKT Pathway by Targeting GTF3C4 to Impede Breast Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mechanisms of Bufalin‐Mediated Intervention in Breast Cancer. ABSTRACT Breast cancer incidence is rising globally, presenting challenges such as treatment side effects and drug resistance. Bufalin is a bufadienolides compound with potential anti‐cancer effects. This study shows that bufalin inhibits malignant proliferation of MDA‐MB‐231 and MCF‐7 cells

RNF213 Is an Interferon‐Stimulated Gene That Targets Influenza A Virus NP and Activates MDA5 to Restrict Infection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNF213 is characterized as a dual‐functional antiviral effector. It directly mediates the degradation of the influenza A virus nucleoprotein (NP) while simultaneously activating the MDA5‐mediated innate immune signaling pathway. This coordinated response establishes a powerful host defense system against viral infection. ABSTRACT Influenza A virus (IAV)
