Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 2015
Although many crystal structures of microbial rhodopsins have been solved, those with sufficient resolution to identify the functional water molecules are very limited. In this study, the Acetabularia rhodopsin I (ARI) protein derived from the marine alga A.

ABSTRACT Amputated apices from vegetative wildtype cells of the uninucleate green alga Acetabularia acetabulum can differentiate a reproductive structure or ‘cap’ in the absence of the nucleus (Hämmerling, J. (1932) Biologisches Zentral-blatt 52, 42-61).

Homeobox-containing genes play developmentally important roles in a wide variety of plants, animals and fungi. As a way of studying how development is controlled in the unicellular green macroalga Acetabularia acetabulum, we used degenerate PCR to clone a knotted1-like (kn1-like) homeobox gene, Aaknox1 (Acetabularia acetabulum kn1-like homeobox 1 ...

Response of the unicellular giant algaAcetabularia Acetabulumto cadmium toxicity and accumulation∗
Toxicological & Environmental Chemistry, 1989Accumulation of cadmium by the unicellular marine alga Acetabularia acetabulum (=A. mediterranea) was studied by using the radioactive isotope 109Cd. Column chromatography (Sephacryl S‐200) of labelled extracts showed that after a short incubation (1–2 h) 109Cd was eluted at the position characteristic for ionic cadmium and for low molecular weight ...

Journal of Phycology, 2003
The ultrastructure and mineralogy of cultured and wild specimens of the green algae Acetabularia acetabulum were studied. Sites of calcification were clarified using TEM and SEM. Minerology was determined via electron diffraction, energy‐dispersive x‐ray microanalysis, and Fourier transform infrared spectral analyses of the calcareous deposits.

Effect of Light n the Chloroplast Distribution Along the Stalk of Acetabularia Acetabulum L. (Silva)
1984Orientated chloroplast movements induced by light has been observed in the cytoplasm of several types of plant cells (for a review see Haupt, Shonbohm, 1970). These movements have been generally interpretated as adaptation mechanism of photosynthesis to environmental conditions.
