Development of CPA‐Catalyzed β‐Selective Reductive Amination of Cardenolides for the Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Hydrolytically Stable Analogs

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 41, July 22, 2025.
We describe a new method to produce hydrolytically stable cardiotonic steroids using a CPA‐controlled diastereoselective reductive amination of cardenolide aglycones. The oleandrin and digitoxigenin analogs exhibited promising activity against various cancer cell lines in the NCI‐60 screen.

Intracellular and Extracellular Efficacy of Homoisoflavone Derivatives Against Mycobacterium Tuberculosis: Progress Toward Novel Antitubercular Agents

open access: yesChemMedChem, Volume 20, Issue 14, July 18, 2025.
A series of 42 homoisoflavones were synthesized and evaluated against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Three derivatives showed potent inhibition of Mtb strains. Evaluation in infected macrophages revealed promising intracellular activity, where one derivative featuring a nitrofuranyl and piperidine group emerges as the most promising.

Molecular Fragmentation as a Strategy to Access Hyperpolarized Compounds from Para‐Hydrogen

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 14, July 18, 2025.
Hyperpolarization using para‐hydrogen is a simple and cost‐effective method to dramatically increase sensitivity in magnetic resonance. When combined with chemical reactions that generate smaller fragments, a much wider array of different hyperpolarized molecules can be accessed.

Sustainable Approaches for the Protection and Deprotection of Functional Groups

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 31, Issue 40, July 17, 2025.
Shield: Protection and deprotection are key to selective synthesis, but conventional methods can lack sustainability. This review highlights electrochemical and photochemical strategies as greener alternatives, emphasizing their mechanisms, functional group tolerance, and broad synthetic utility.

Nutritionally Responsive PMv DAT Neurons Are Dynamically Regulated During Pubertal Transition

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 13, 15 July 2025.
The ventral premammillary nucleus of the hypothalamus plays an essential role in the metabolic control of reproduction. Puberty brings large changes to a subpopulation of PMvLepRb cells expressing the dopamine transporter (PMvDAT). DAT gene expression is higher in prepubertal females than in adults and is regulated by leptin in prepubertal females ...
