Mechanochemistry Enables Rapid and Solvent‐Free Wittig Reactions on Sugars

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 1, January 2026.
A solvent‐free mechanochemical protocol for the Wittig olefination of reducing sugars is reported. The method enables rapid access to structurally diverse olefins from acetonide‐ and benzyl‐protected carbohydrates, as well as unprotected sugars, under mild conditions, with improved selectivity, broad substrate scope, and enhanced sustainability.
