Assessment of toxic effects of triclosan on the terrestrial snail (Achatina fulica)

Chemosphere, 2014
Triclosan (TCS) is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent used in personal care products, and as a result, is widespread in the environment. Toxicity tests of TCS on aquatic organisms have been reported, but limited toxicity data on terrestrial species are available.

Trypsin inhibitory activity associated with the subunit of the haemocyanin of Achatina fulica

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1973
Abstract 1. 1. From the haemolymph of the gastropod Achatina fulica (giant African snail) a haemocyanin subunit of 70,000 daltons can be separated. 2. 2. This subunit exhibits an inhibitory effect on bovine trypsin. 3. 3. The haemocyanins from the haemolymphs of Helix pomatia and Helix aspersa do not dissociate under similar ...

Attraction of the snail Achatina fulica to extracts of conspecific pedal glands

Behavioral Biology, 1978
When individually tested in an olfactometer, snails discriminated homogenates of conspecific pedal gland from homogenates of conspecific salivary gland. They oriented preferentially toward the pedal gland stimulus, when it was presented either as an aqueous solution or as a residue of an ether extraction.

(Achatina fulica)

Purification and characterization of an agglutinin from mucus of the snail Achatina fulica

Biochimie, 1988
The mucus of the snail Achatina fulica shows the presence of an agglutinin that nonspecifically agglutinates human erythrocytes. The agglutinin has been purified by affinity chromatography using Sepharose 4B-hog gastric mucin as the affinity matrix. Homogeneity was checked by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, immunodiffusion, immunoelectrophoresis ...

Hsp70 in the atrial neuroendocrine units of the snail, Achatina fulica

Cell Biology International, 2007
AbstractHeat shock proteins (Hsps) are evolutionary conserved peptides well known as molecular chaperones and stress proteins. Elevated levels of extracellular Hsps in blood plasma have been observed during the stress responses and some diseases. Information on the cellular sources of extracellular Hsps and mechanisms regulating their release is still ...
